Overheard on my trip to the World

Normally I am very tolerant of things I hear in the parks, because I know that we are all human and God knows I've had some classic moments myself. But I have to say on this trip I heard two comments that got my goat.

1) In line to meet Buzz and Woody. I'm there with my DD (6). I'm standing in front of a girl about my age (37) and her little ones and behind another girl and her little one. The woman behind me was just as psyched as I was to meet the characters, and her husband decided to walk up and tease her, saying. "It's not the real one, you know. It's just a bloke in a costume." She shooed him off and we had a little laugh over it but I was like "Geez!".

2) In line to meet Minnie when the woman behind me decides to expound on the fact that "You know, there is a height limit on this job, because of the costume." She's about to go on about this to her group when I turned around with a big smile and gave her the "shush" sign. At which point she's like "Oh, right! There's kids about!" Really??? In Disney World???

Bless their hearts, I know people just aren't thinking. But my DD is just at that age where she still believes but is certainly smart enough to figure things out...I really didn't want it ruined quite yet! Fortunately no harm done, but I think that's the one area where you really do have to stop and think before you speak.

I know...I was in line with my neice to meet Pluto at AK and there were some off duty CM's behind us. I knew this because they were talking about work. THEN, they started speculating who was in the Pluto costume by how they acted. I stayed in line and asked my niece to run her drink over to my sister who was standing a few feet away then I turned to them and said "Thanks for ruining the magic of meeting Pluto for us"

They did apologize and when she came back they started talking about how Pluto looked happy today and what a good dog he was. I don't think my neice caught on to what they were talking about but it really could have ruined things for her

Bunch'a weasels.

Why do some folks seem to have to prove they're intelligent by verbally pointing out what's obvious to anyone over age 10?

Heck if someone asks me what the wire running from the castle to Tomorrowland is, if there are kids anywhere around I tell them it's Cinderella's clothesline.

I love that! On our last trip my 8 yr old neice overheard someone saying something about people in costumes and it really freaked her out! Not only questioning whether a character is real but on a bigger level like is the Easter Bunny real, tooth fairy, Santa? Kids hear everything!

This kind of fits in but when I was little my mom used to tell me the Haunted Mansion was a Scooby Doo ride so I would go on and not be scared.
But ya I hate when people ruin it for others. I over hear people talking and a little kid is standing right there and I see the mom or dad start talking loud or move away. I always look around before I say a thing that others may not want to hear.

Nah, it's the TV cable. Prince Charming wanted ESPN, and they were having issues with running it through the moat. They were going to go with satellite, but Tinker Bell was causing too much interference. :)

On topic, I never, ever talk about character "things" on stage, and never when I'm around children, period. I really hate it when people do.

I remember telling my niece that it was tinkerbell's phone line because she was smart enough to notice it couldn't be a telephone or cable line! It took some fast thinking on my part, but I simply explaned that the wire had to be small and fine because so is Tink!

always careful

On our trip last week (sigh) we went with friends whom had never been to Disney before and so I warned them that depending on the question they may get a "disney real" answer depending on if there were people around and that back at the hotel they could get a "real" answer as to how so things worked... funny, they liked my "disney real" answers better... :ROFLOL:

I've overheard a VIP guide telling a kid that it was a chalk line drawn by Peter Pan so Tinkerbell wouldn't get lost. I wonder what happens when it rains.
