Outcry for Hunchback - "they" are listening!

Why do the "singing" characters have those little black microphones in front of their mouths? Why do the people in the sound booths check the levels of the characters that have microphones? Why do the "VUE" meters on those characters with microphones show different results than the taped playback? Obviously, more characters in "Hunchback" sang live. Beauty and the Beast only have two.

Both B and the B shows that I saw were 100% tape vocal tracks. This is why I refused to watch the show again.

Can anyone technically involved with the show confirm that this has now changed?

If two people actually do sing now, I'd be willing to give the show another chance.

In Hunchback, I count 8 people with actual singing parts.

Clopin, Esmerelda, Quasimodo, Victor, Laverne, Hugo... who are the other 2?

Actually I miscounted. Frolo sings and the priest and phebus just act only.

We saw Beauty and the Beast at Disney-MGM Studios just last week and Belle was definitely singing live because she got the giggles and almost broke into full laughter. It was cute.

What makes you think there will be anything new?

A very good point... everyone I've talked to says there are no sure plans for the theater. It was closed with very little notice because of BUDGETING issues.. if they can't afford to keep it open HOW are they going to open something new?? ... and so my favorite theater sits empty... :brick:

Just want to say that my family and I thought the show was great...it gave us one of our best WDW memories as Quasi gave my then 6 yr old a kiss on the cheek as he finished singing the last note....it will be missed, but as long as Disney replaces it with something good, there is potential for more memories

Hunchback had something very strange and unusual about it. It suffered the disadvantage of using "REAL" live singing.
How is that unusual? Hunchback wasn't the only show to use live singing. Belle and Gaston sing in Beauty and the Beast, Ariel sings in Voyage of the Little Mermaid, Cinderella sings in Cinderella's Surprise Celebration, Kiume, Zawadi, Nakawa, and Kibibi all sing in Festival of the Lion King. And each of these shows, including Hunchback, have a track for the performer to use if their voices give out or if there are other technical problems

Disney should just go back to doing shows where their actors run around and lip sync. These type actors need to focus on one thing and one thing only....LOOKING GOOD. The pre-recorded vocal tracks will do ALL of the rest.
There actually were some Hunchback performers who were only allowed to lip sync. They were only used in emergency situations, but they were there.

It's too hard for Disney to make shows that require actors to look good AND sound good (at the same time) like Hunchback. The actors at Hunchback were also difficult to replace because of the talent level required to do the parts. With other shows, all you need are competent energetic....."models" to do the show. There are no shortage of these people in Orlando.
Again there are several shows with live singing on Disney property. Also, with monthly open calls for singers, it really isn't all that difficult to find others to replace the talent for any show.

I was at Hunchback at the very last 6:00 show and LOVED every note those singers sang. I've seen that show 50 times over the years. I refuse to watch any Disney "live" show where the singers do not sing, "live". Watching someone try to "pretend" they are a really good singer is hilarious...in a bad way!
Earlier you said that Disney should just go back to doing shows where their actors run around an lip sync. Now you are saying that you refuse to watch any Disney "live show where the singers do not sing "live". Where exactly do you stand on this? I understand that you enjoyed Hunchback, it was a great show, however, there are other quality shows with live singing around WDW!

Can they put a disclaimer at the begining of the B and The B?? Like a simple; "Attention, the singing and music you are about to hear is 100% pre recorded....thank you."

No, they can't because the singing and music isn't 100% pre-recorded. As I said in my previous post, Belle and Gaston both sing in the show.

There are only two because there are only two "live" characters on stage that sang in the movie.

I was just being a bit facetious and sarcastic about the lip syncing stuff. It's kind of a "read between the lines" thing.

OK, no funny stuff from here on: (take me "literally" starting right.......NOW!)

I HATE lip syncing.
I HATE it in plays, in concerts, in shows, and in theater........
I do NOT like it in a house
I do NOT like it with a mouse
I don't like it in the dark
and certainly not in ANY park
I don't like it on a [Disney] boat
I'd just hate EVERY note
I don'...........( you get the picture )

I must have been very unlucky all the times I have seen B& the B. Every show I have seen was 100% lip sync'ed. However, I must have been very luckey on the 50 or so times that I've seen Hunchback, NONE of those shows used taped vocal tracks. (thank the music gods)

I'll be at MGM during Thanksgiving. This thread has single handedly persuaded me to see B& the B one more time.

So I'll be in the front row watching like a hawk....I mean, "listening" like a.......like a?.........like an "owl" or something!....????

well i only saw b&tb at mgm once - back when it first opened. While it is one of my favorite movies - i thought this stage show was boring and, well in a word ---------- sucked. I hate that Hunchback is gone - but I am all for bringing in new stuff. That being said i wish they would bring in a new show to replace B&tb. On the plus side though it keeps a whole bunch of people occupied while i do cool stuff at mgm!
