Our evil plan worked! (Siemens info)

Yay! Our evil plan.. (err.. well.. my evil plan) to get Siemens to release information about Epcot, Spaceship Earth, and their sponsorship seems to have worked.

For those who don't recall, I posted about Siemens main website polling its users about the information systems, etc.. and I recommended we all take their survey them and tell them we couldn't find information about Epcot, Spaceship Earth, and Disney.

Well, previously they just had an ancient press release on the website, now it's snazzy and has a giant picture of Spaceship Earth at the top (which sadly, has the wand attached)

Oo, super snazzy.. and it has the following Epcot SSE tidbits:

Spaceship Earth, the centerpiece of Epcot®, as well as a Siemens-branded post-show experience, which will include several interactive exhibits related to Siemens technologies in areas such as healthcare, transportation and energy.

Ok, not so telling, but then there's this...

Nexus 21, a VIP center at Epcot for the exclusive use of Siemens employees and customers. The center serves as a hospitality and briefing center showcasing the company’s story of innovation and technology.

Yay! *goes and plots more evil*

Just "futuristic" stuff it seems. And Siemens is pretty darn good at that.. just browse other parts of their website.

So, assuming they're re-centering Epcot theme (Horizons was Epcot's "theme center" at one point) back to Spaceship Earth, the whole communications idea may get downplayed while "technology and innovation" might prevail.

I was looking at my park maps last night and noticed that the wand isn't shown on Spaceship Earth on the map. Not sure if this means anything. I'll have to go back and check my older maps to see if it is shown there.

As part of the alliance, Siemens will sponsor several rides and attractions at Walt Disney World Resort, including the Epcot icon, Spaceship Earth and its post show area which includes 9000-square feet of interactive exhibits based on Siemens technology.
That's a lot of space!!

Any idea on when this will be done? Last July, when we got off of Spaceship Earth, we were ushered into one of their famous barrier walls then out the door. This is a long time for this space to sit unused or empty. Are they working on it now? Or are they just planning this for the future and it is still sitting empty? My DD LOVED the stuff that was in there before. She would have spent all day in there if we had let her. It was quite sad to see it like that last July.

Sounds more like Innoventions North than anything...should be cool, though. We'll have a company at the forefront of technology willing to constantly update things in there. Innoventions would be very cool if they could have that. And let's not forget, as the centerpiece attraction for Epcot, it makes sense for it to showcase some of the topics that guests can explore elsewhere in the park. Of course, communication always was a topic that could tie Future World and World Showcase together...it is the backbone of discovery.

You got me all excited because the customized maps I recently got from Disney didn't have the wand, either. But then I pulled out a map from my 2004 trip (where Soarin' is only listed as "Future Site of Soarin' Coming in 2005") and it didn't have the wand on it either. Oh well.... :(

Cool how they did put some info about what they plan to do (of course, it wasn't much.)

It's funny how George Nolen, President & CEO of Siemens Corporation said:

Disney and Siemens are two of the world’s most recognized and respected brands

But I never heard of Siemens until I found out they were sponsoring things like Spaceship Earth and Osbourne Spectacle of Lights.

I'm sure you've heard of Sylvania though, which is a Siemen's brand, among many others.

The wand covered the "bushes/trees" that plainly seperate Energy from SSE. With the wand, people constantly tried to cut across near Energy's exit, to no avail of course (it's actually a dog-walk area and CM-only little pathway up a hill that pops out right by Guest Relations' doors). So the CMs complained that enough guests were lost and got the wand taken off the map.

I hope this park doesn't become 'Siemens EPCOT'. The new technology shown will be great as long as it's not a permanent 'trade show,' showcasing THEIR products. One simple sign reading, 'Sponsored by Siemens,' would be appropriate.

Heading for the great escape.

Pretty well known on this side of the puddle.Though cant think of a single consumer product that i would class them as a leader in.

How do you know these things? Your old-Disney theme park knowledge baffles me! You're like a living Epcot-Google! I'm glad you'll be coming for the 25th.
:sohappy:
How do I know? 20 years of research and nothing better to do

It`ll be good to be there in October :sohappy: (a smilie I don`t use that often!)
