Otter exhibit refurbishment

I guess I never knew they had otters. Where are these otters!

They're on Discovery Island, pretty much across the walkway from Pizzafari. There's a cave with steps down into it (or a ramp leading there to the right of the stairs). From down in the cave you can see both above and below the water.

I presume most people only think it's a viewing area to see the fish swimming in the water, when the otters are sleeping up on the island above the waterline.

Other animal news:
According to Steve Soares' twitter the komodo dragon on Maharajah Jungle Trek has died and the exhibit currently has bar headed geese in it.

Oh how exciting, geese...
Bar Headed Geese...would be an exciting addition if it were in neighbouring Yak & Yeti.

That's unfortunate. I'll verify tomorrow. Also, the desperately need more Asian animals. They've used Bar Headed Geese to replace both the Malayan Tapir and now the Komodo Dragon. Additionally, at last count they were down to four Tigers.

Sorry to hear the dragon died. Though I will admit, as here is the dragon just last month...they could have told me it was dead already and I would have believed them.

Any updates on this exhibit? Is the issue that the animals passed away? What about the Komodo Dragon, is that going to be replaced?

Yes. I love my Malayan Tapirs!

DAK has a real shortage of large charismatic animals outside of the trials ans Safari. Especially Asia, where they unforgivably never build that water safari. I'm fine with no Yeti and rides few in number and poor to boot, but then at least let DAK be that nature park.

Give us back our Komodo Dragons and Tapirs! Or a sloth bear, black panther and an orangutan...

I don't think the old Tapir exhibit met current AZA standards for them. I think that's partly why they haven't acquired a new one. The birds are nice but something else would be a better fit for that exhibit.

Red Pandas, Langurs etc
Could they get a couple Ligers?
