Other tips for my friends

Ok - these are the same friends I mentioned in my dining suggestion thread. We are helping to send them to WDW for their honeymoon next week. It will be the first time in WDW for the bride (though she's been to DL) and the second for the groom (he hasn't been in about 10 years though). Without overwhelming them, I wanted to give them a few tips for Epcot and Magic Kingdom--probably the only parks they'll get to visit. This is what I sent them:

OTHER TIPS

EPCOT:
If you want to ride Soarin', you must get a fast pass as soon as you enter the park. The lines for this ride are CRAZY!
If you get motion sickness, don't ride the original version of Mission: Space. There's a tamer one that I ride.
Try Epcot's Food and Wine Festival. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but I know I would check it out if I were visiting at this time!

MAGIC KINGDOM:
MUST rides - Buzz Lightyear, Space Mountain, Mickey's Philharmagic, Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain (ask to sit in the back).

  • Whichever park you visit first, immediately find the Guest Services counter. Tell them you just got married and they will give you free "Honeymoon" buttons.
  • Photo Pass is neat and doesn't cost anything. If you are posing for a picture, a Disney Cast Member will most likely pop up and take one with their camera and then give you a card. Give this card to every Cast Member that takes your picture. You can later look at all the pictures they've taken online by using the code on the card and order some if you'd like.
  • When getting fastpasses you are given an hour-long window of time to come back and ride the ride. You cannot get another fastpass until that hour-long span begins. Once it does, try getting another fastpass and then head to the ride. This way, you'll get the most fastpasses you can. Though, you may not even need them. (DH) and I didn't use very many b/c the crowd level was not too bad when we were there. If you'd prefer the front of back of any ride, simply ask and they will usually accommodate you.
  • If you ride the monorail, you can ask to wait for one that will allow you to sit in the front. if you do this, you should get a monorail pilot's license.
I know I wasn't too specific/accurate, but for newbies I thought this was good.

Are there any ESSENTIAL tips for first-timers-who-have-no-idea-about-WDW I should include as well?

You must eat a Dole Whip Float at the Aloha Isle.

Also, have them start in Adventureland and work their way to Tomorrowland. It always seems as though the crowd runs to Space first, so its easier to do more rides in the morning by starting with Adventureland.....

Also, although lots of folks like the parades and fireworks, these are a prime time to get on rides that have been packed during the day.....fireworks are nice, but I've seen them before...

I think a very good tip is much as they may want to sleep in especially on their honeymoon they should still try their best to get up and go as close to park opening as possible.

The parks are usually a lot less crowded early and they can walk on a lot of rides. Then they can go back and nap or go to the pool in the afternoon and do whatever for dinner.

Another tip is to not try to squeeze it all in. Decide what you want to do the most, do that and anything else is gravy. It's their honeymoon so they should try to take it at a leasurely pace.

For a first timer I would let them know about how to use fast pass. I would also let them know that if a line is long skip it and double back. You may find that the line has abated while you are riding another ride. Also let them know that the 3D movies are really worth seeing not just cheesy special effects.

Your Fastpass tips are slightly inaccurate. You can get another Fastpass exactly 2 hours after you receive the current one. For example: At 9:15am you get a Fastpass for Soar'in that says to return between 2:00pm - 3:00pm (not unusual). You don't have to wait until 2:00pm to get another Fastpass. You can get another one at 11:15am:wave::sohappy:

My number one tip to anybody is always, always, always pick up the map at the front entrance.

It is best to travel in the circle it was designed for . . . if you jump back and forth you may not fit it all in in a day. Now, I have only gone when the lines are zero to very short, so this works for me. I have heard horrific line stories from other posters here. Perhaps one of them could lead you to the sight that offers the-best-way-to-jump-back-and-forth-in-a-park-when-its-busy-ideas. I hear they are fantastic.

Most importanly ~ enjoy it. If you don't fit it all in, I guarantee you will be back again.

Just thought I would mention that Big Thunder Mountain is scheduled for refurb. during that time.

My 4 yr old DS is quite upset taht it will be closed while we are there also.

They also need to pick up the Bride and Groom hats. I know they will have to pay for them, but I have seen CMs give newlyweds some "magical" treatment.

Here are some of the tips I gave to my son and daughter-in-law when they went in the summer. My daughter-in-law had never been before and my son had not been in a very long time. They only did MK and AK. So these are tips for MK.

Pick up a time's guide and a current park map.
Get pictures taken on Main Street by the Photopass people. Also have them take pictures with their own camera. Often these turn out better than the Photopass pictures.
Skip the afternoon parade, and any shows at the castle that are in the middle of the day.
Eat early or late.
Do Fantasyland either first or later in the day.
Use fast passes as much as possible.
If Spectromagic runs twice, watch the second Spectromagic Parade. If not, watch the first parade and stay for the fireworks (Wishes).
Watch the fireworks (Wishes) from somewhere in front of the castle.
To get out of the afternoon heat, head to The Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress, WDW Railroad (ride all the way around and get off where you got on), Tomorrowland Transit Authority, The Tiki Room: Under New Management, Pirates of the Caribbean.
Wander through the shops on Main Street during the afternoon parade.
There's a little used walkway between Space Mountain and the Toontown Train Station, take a break and sit on a bench in the shade and eat ice cream.

Tell them to check the Tip Board in each park upon entry. You get the best info from these boards! Also, wish them a happy honeymoon from my husband & me; we LOVE newlyweds.
