Other possible closings Jan 2016

Next Big Thing

I'm in the same boat with it being our first family trip to Disneyland planned next year, but so much is planned to be closed. I'm a bit sad that we won't get to see Fantasmic! or the life that RoA brings, but oh well I guess. Beyond that though, is it known how long are the refurbs mentioned in the 12/1 micechat update will be (Autopia/Silly Symphony/Mermaid/Pirates/Splash/JC)?

Also, is it known around when the Frozen show will open by?

We are planning our first trip to DL since early 2000's and are thinking about late April-early May.

We have some flexibility on dates, so want to try and have the best idea possible on what is/may be closed. Looking at DL refurbishment schedule for mid-apri/early-May, there are a few things posted. Are there rumors more will be added to the list? When do attractions usually get announced they're going down? We are sitting at about 4months out currently...

Schedule doesn't firm up until 30-60 days out. Expect railroad, Fantasmic and all River attractions to be closed. Jungle Cruise, possibly Autopia and Soarin as well.

Just to provide a bit of a voice of reason -

All Disneyland fans need to remember, that April showers bring May flowers. It's Disneyland's continued commitment to let its attractions go under the knife for refurbs that in many ways separate it from the Florida franchise. In almost every instance, attractions that go down in Anaheim come out of their slumber in far better shape than they went under. In Florida, everything is "too big to fail" and they can't pull attractions down for simple upkeep, let alone plussing. As much as I dislike Florida's lack of ambition in recent years, it's the operational condition of their parks that drives me nuts. Closing things for the amount of time they need to get work done is paramount to maintaining the Disney difference.

The march toward Star Wars is going to be painful and RoA will be an eyesore for about a year and a half. When it comes back, it won't be the same; but, it will come back in a shorter form. From what I understand, the new berm should block the Star Wars intrusion or at least minimize it. I'm cautiously optimistic on this one. That said... I'll still be there next week to say goodbye to our old friend.

Even with everything going offline after 1/10, there will still be more to do inside of either of the two Anaheim gates than any of the Florida parks and what is there is usually in far better condition than WDW.

Huh? MK has as much to do as DCA and the total of WDW attractions is still close to DL.

Except for Splash Mountain and Indiana Jones.

Indy came back from the 2nd to last refurb with a much more reliable finale. Of course, the last refurb also gave us the "enhanced" Chamber of Destiny... so, that's why I said "in almost every instance".

That's my point... even with the Refurb/Closure Apocalypse that is starting on 1/11, both parks will still have more than anything in Florida. The attraction/person ratio at DLR is a wonderful thing that allows the resort to keep the quality high. Time and time again requests for downtime in Orlando are either drastically reduced or flat out not approved because the operational impact is deemed to high.

While I agree that for the next year and half, one quarter of DL will be an eyesore - the park will be operationally better off than even the MK when BTM goes offline for a relatively quick couple of months.

The thing is, and I don't want to come rushing to the defense of WDW or anything, but that total number of attractions at DL includes a lot of comparatively junkier carnival rides. DCA's full of them. Also, with WDW, I feel you should factor in the number of shows vs. Disneyland. You get more return on your investment from WDW attractions in many cases.

So here's a question for you-I will be in SoCal on business the 2nd week in January. I had already booked a trip to DL the 10-13 before the closures were announced. Right now we are only planning on being in the parks the 11th & 12th & I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to shell out for an evening on the 11th so that we can do HM & JC (minimum) before they close. I will be back in August for another business trip, but I'm SO BUMMED about missing the Hatbox Ghost, as I haven't seen it yet...but I'm also concerned that what is slated to close on 1/11 will be flooded with locals the night of the 10th.

No one will be flooding HM more than unusual on the 10th. The river attractions, Fantasmic and Aladdin will get all the attention.

Errr... have we already forgotten last year?

From Micechat: http://micechat.com/92286-disneyland-gets-ready-for-60/

Predictably people puffed their chest, threatened to cancel their AP's and instead DL was greeted with likely record annual crowds and what most consider a very successful effort for the 60th.

Honestly, I get excited the longer the refurb list gets. Maybe I'm just weird, but I am glad they are keeping up the pace established last year.
I was thinking the same thing. I remember MiceAge complaining last year about the long list of refurbs. And then they also complain when rides aren't regularly kept up and refreshed. I think they just like to complain.
