Other Peoples Pools

No can do.

Each resort pool has a sign that says something to the effect that pool usage is for resort guests only.

Here is a
photo of the sign at Pop Century
That is totally unambiguous to me.

(The exceptions are the sister resorts--All Stars and PO. If you are staying at Sports, you can use the pools at Music or Movies. Guests at POR can use the pool at POFQ)

Although enforcement is sporadic at best, CMs do check room keys to confirm "residency".

I think the only guests that are allowed to do this are DVC members, and even DVC members are restricted to the pools they can hop to. For example, no hopping is ever allowed at Stormalong Bay or at the AKL pool. But how this is enforced? Well, loosely, is my guess.

never been asked for key and visited many resort pools

We stayed on one property and visited many other resort pools over the years. They all have main pools with bath facilities we used or stopped there on way back from a park with pool wear in the back pack and stayed for a bit swam and ate at thier resort and then on to our next park. We've never been asked or seen anyone asked. If you not disruptive, or causing problems no one will know or care.

No, it is illegal to do, even for a quick jaunt, as per Disney standards.

But one can do it, very easily.

Yes, even at Stormalong Bay at Yacht/Beach.

Have fun, regardless.

Years ago...when there were only 3 resorts I think....Ft. Wilderness, Poly and Contemp.....we were allowed to swim in either of those pools from the campground or swim in the lake...yes you could do that way back when. That was because the campground didn't have a pool and the guests from Contemp & Poly were allowed at the beach and the hayrides and movies etc at the campground. Once they got bigger they got more selective.....not selective, but you know what I mean. Exclusive I guess you had to stay there to use the pools etc.

Very true....it has been over a decade if not more since the pool hopping has become "outlawed". I am sure people do it, but I wouldn't do it nor would i want to be embarassed by getting caught.....Luckily, we stay wherever we feel like it and the pools don't matter, we rarely swim ecept a quick dip for the boys before bed and the water parks are more fun.

I have pool hopped in the past, but have not in awhile. Really no need to since each resort has at least 1 perfectly good pool so it's not worth the time travelling to the other resort. Plus I think you have to have your room key to access the bathrooms by the pools now, so if you do go to another resort make sure you use the bathroom before you leave your room! ;)

I was recently (Middle June) at the resort, we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside and asked the CM's if we could go to AKL to swim in their pool and to hang out. The CM's said that wasn't a problem, just to obey pool swimming rules and to have our Port Orleans room key with us to prove we were guests at the resort.

We went over to AKL and a CM asked us if we were staying at the resort and we said at Port Orleans and they DID NOT have a problem with us being there. They welcomed us as we were staying at the AKL.

It may be against the rules as some of you say, but I have never seen it in writing! It's not a rule until it's in writing and in front of me.

Go pool hopping... it's fun and you can experience them all. I know Universal allows you to go to all of their pools! Does the mouse want to be outdone by the competition? I don't think so.

Usually the pools have something that says for such &such resort guests. They don't say for WDW resort guests....if they did there would certainly be no reason to pay the big bucks for the nicer hotels with the fun pools now would there be?

I don't understand all this pool hopping nonsense.
It's not allowed...don't do it. It's that simple.

If you stayed at the Howard Johnson Motel do you think you should be allowed to drive down the road and swim in the Holiday Inn's pool?

Swim where you stay.
It's a no-brainer. :hammer:

My thoughts exactly!!!

Well except if you are a Disney Vacation Club Member, like we are, then it's a privilege to pool hop. :D

..a privilege for which you pay dearly. And even then DVC members cannot hop to Stormalong Bay or AKL.

(Does anyone really know what is so special about AKL that hopping is never allowed? Is the pool that much nicer than GF or the Polynesian??)

As was posted earlier by yellow shoes, it is in writing at the pools on the board with all the pool rules. You may not get caught, but you may get caught. Why chance it? I wouldn't. All the resorts have very nice pools with very nice theming. To be safe, I would just swim in the pool that is in my resort.

We used to be able to use the WDW Resort pools without even staying on property, but times have certainly changed. Now we can't even walk into the MK from the Contemp like we used to. :(

The golden rule is that you're not supposed to use pools at a resort unless you're staying there. The time of year generally determines whether or not this rule is actually enforced. It's also tough to get to Stormalong Bay, just because that's the best resort pool in all of WDW. They even have a fence that goes all the way around the pool property (no other resort pools have this)

Of course, if you're on a monorail resort, it's pretty easy to get to the other monorial resort pools.

If you don't mind possibly wasting a lot of time, then give it a shot. If you go to anything but Stormalong Bay and you don't make it look obvious, you can probably get away with it.

The Vacation Club has already payed for itself the way my family uses it. And although we are not permitted to Stormalong Bay or AKL, the rest of the pools at the resort are available to us. The point I was making was that DVC members are really the only ones who have the privilege to pool hop, with the exception of Stormalong Bay and AKL. Both of which I fully understand why that is not allowed.

I figure if you want to risk it, go ahead and do it. I'm going in August and plan on hopping in the Poly pool for just a little bit. I mean staying the whole day is a different story, but if you just want to take a quick dip and see how their pool measures up, I see no problem. Often times that quick dip might determine if you would like to stay at that resort on the next visit.

This is just a ridiculous statement (sorry crazydaveh). It is clearly in writing on the sign posted above for the Pop Century pools. I don't think there is much question as to whether or not it is against the rules -- it seems quite clear that it is. So then the question becomes "Can I get away with it?"

The problem is that the first person who is kicked out of a pool area because they are not a guest there will whine and moan and complain about all sorts of Disney unfairness.

And it is also unfair to those in the resorts themselves. If I pay for a "high-end" resort, I don't want people who are paying for a "low-end" resort invading my pool. This isn't snobbery, but that I have paid my hard-earned money for resort amenities, including pool usage, and they haven't. And I used that example because I don't think those staying at the Grand Floridian are scamming to use the pools at Pop Century.

Disney is great because they don't enforce the rules, making you have more enjoyment of the experience rather than having to jump through all the hoops caused by rule enforcement. But it is the responsibility of individuals to follow the rules instead of forcing Disney to ruin everyone's experience because a select few choose to make up their own rules.

But I guess that individual responsibility is too much to ask for in this day and age ... :(
