Actually, his predecessor Johnny Olson (1910-1985) coined the phrase "Come On Down". I was 12 at the time of Johnny Olson's passing, and when I learned of his death on the network news that night, I wondered if this was the end of TPiR for good! Turns out that I was wrong, and Rod Roddy finally showed up! He too "will be sorely missed", to quote Bob Barker upon announcing Johnny Olson death 18 years ago.

Yes, I was well aware of Mr. Olson's origination of the phrase. I never suggested that he (Roddy) coined that phrase. Mr. Olson was a regular announcer on many TV shows. Revisit my post and find the humor.

DAMN IT!!!

I REMEMBER SITTING IN FRONT OF MY TV AS A KID, LAID UP AGAINST A STACK OF PILLOWS WITH A PP&J EVERYDAY SINCE I WAS SERIOUSLY, A MONTH OLD. DAMN IT, I'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO WATCH THE SHOW AGAIN WITHOUT CRYING!!

I've met him like three times, so this is really devistating to me. Cause he was one of the best people you could ever meet.

I saw this this morning... So sad... I loved Rod Roddy - the most iconic voice in television... Also the voice of "Mike" the Microphone from Disney's House of Mouse... He really added to "The Price Is Right"... Heck... he was TPIR!... Terrible news...

That sucks, big time. I wonder who there going to get to announce the show now? He had the coolest voice. And I knew his voice sounded familar from "House of Mouse"

He was also the announcer for "Press Your Luck" in 1983, and the "Love Connection" from 1983-85. Both of those shows can still be seen on Game Show Network.
