OT: Pop Vs. Soda

From looking at the chart you linked the major urban cities use both terms, But i think it mostly depends on where and how you were brought up to use the term. I do know from spending a month in atlanta in July of 2000 that when you go into a resturant everything is Coke nomater what you want. I guess that is because Atlanta is a Coke town

I'm very surprised to see that. I thought the term "pop" (which is of course the correct term :) ) was much more localized than that.

Actually Pepsi is preffered over coke by most people in georgia. You would think the opposite though wouldn't you, since its the coke world headquarters. Its pretty weird. I lived in one place where they called every type of soda a "coke". didn't matter what it was,(sprite, pepsi, hawaiian punch)as long as it came in a can, it was known as a coke. Now thats what I call ignorant.

I beg your pardon. People do that where I live and I am one of those people:mad:

Our local news said that the Buffalo area is Pepsi's largest market. I was very surprised to hear that, and I can't help but wonder if they got their facts wrong. Anyone have any ideas? :)

Down in southern Indiana (I'm from central.. don't get us confused with those *cough* rednecks) EVERYTHING is "coke" something or other. A list to show you my point:

Fanta Grape: Grape Coke
Orange Soda: Orange Coke
Mountain Dew: Lemon Lime Coke
Code Red: Lemon Lime Coke with Cherry
Root Beer: Natural Coke
Pepsi: The other Coke
Pepsi One: The healthy other Coke

It gets really annoying. Different pops have different names for a reason. Learn them. ;) Oh, and it is SO called pop! (hehe)

Yeah, but try and find a Pepsi in Atlanta--that's a tough one. And here in Alabama, everything is call "Coke". Call it ignorant, I call it redneck--and I are one of them.:hammer:
Back in the old days when I lived up north, we called it pop and my fave was Faygo Red Pop? Anyone remember that?

we just ask for a 'cold drink'. Down here if you asked for a 'soda' or a 'pop' it would be a dead giveaway that you were a transplant.

I didnt mean to offend anyone with that. I called it pop in Minnesota. but since I moved to Georgia I've had to make the switch to soda.

I still drink Faygo. Redpop! rules. but I like all of them.

I call it a soft drink most of the times, or a drink, or the name of the beverage I want. (Most of the times Coke!), but when I was in Michigan, it was "pop"... although I don´t recall drinking a "cream soda pop" :D Cream soda was excellent btw! We have that flavor here too... made by Coke! :slurp:

Has any of you had "Shweppers"? :animwink:

Shoot, you didn't offend me. Being called a redneck in Bama is sometimes an honor.:lol:

In Missouri . . .

I've lived in Missouri nearly all my life, most of it in the South Eastern part, and 7 years (5th grade through 11th) in the South Western part. In SEMO, it's called soda, while in SWMO it's called pop. :veryconfu

Go figure. :hammer:

Me, I prefer the Great, resfreshing taste of a Cold Dr. Pepper!
:slurp: Aaahh! Wouldn't YOU like to be a Pepper too? :)
