Ok this has nothing to do with WDW, but here it goes. I'm going to Universal this summer before I go to WDW and I heard that there is a new ride based on the Mummy. Does anyone know what this ride is? Is it a coaster or a simulation thingy?

Im not sure when it is supposed to open, but it is a new type of coaster or soemthing to that effect. It is coaster based but is going to have interactions with other parts of the ridae. Think of it as a rollercoaster version of Dinosaur with Mummy theming. Hope that helped. If anyone else can explain it better or knows when its opening,by all means help me out:lol:

We have a pretty involved discussion of the ride, ride system and storyline in the Universal Studios section of the forum. It opens May 22 (or 12, don't remember).

Revenge of the Mummy is a roller coaster/ dark ride hybrid. It's supposed to be pretty cool. You can read info about it and reviews at ioacentral online.

Have fun!

If EE is going to utilize a brain fire effect, trick unload station, subliminal ghost projections, the newest form of LIMs , a smoke projection scene, and in-car tactile effects, then yes.

If EE is just going to utilize some audio-animatronics in a really well themed enviroment, then not really.

The only similarities between the two is the backwards track section and use of audio-animatronics. Mummy will utilize much more extensive effects (at least that is what is looking like).

The ride in Hollywood opens June 25th. The version in Florida officially opens May 22nd. It was open for Technical Rehearsals for several weeks a few weeks ago before closing to install its 3 animatronics and other smalladjustments. The video preview is incredibly misleading. NOTHING in that video is in or from the ride. Its all taken from the Mummy movies and/or overlays of the Hulk coaster.

In short, Mummy is a dark-ride/coaster hybrid. It starts off slowly moving through three main show scenes and actually stopping in two where certain things/effects happen. It then enters into a traditional coaster section in the dark with blacklight cutouts and fog surronding the track at points. The intensity/thrill levels of stricitly the fast coaster section are on par with Space Mountain (but with a LIM launch). You stop for another show scene and a very short coaster section following before the ride ends. Pretty cool, but not really groundbreaking. Should be very popular though. Check out the Universal forum for more info.

SPOILERS

Unless MAJOR changes are made from the technical rehearsals, I can tell you that there are no "subliminal ghost projections", just blacklite cutouts of Mummy ghosts during the fast coaster section like in RNRC. I don't recall any smoke projection screens, just CG Mummy faces projected onto normal screens. There are NO in-car tactile effects. Water sprays on you at several points, but no tactile effects. The LIMS used have all been used before on coasters around the world. I'm not positive, but it might be the first time that both LIMS and SLIMS were combined for a ride, but nothing new. You'll see for yourself, but the fake unload section happens so fast that it never feels like a true unload station. Just another show scene during the ride. The backwards section is virtually NOTHING and not really worth reporting. It is merely a quick surprise down a small hill. Hardly a backwards coaster section like Everest *is expected* to have.

Last but not least, the brain fire effect has been done before, including Universal's backdraft attraction. But still probably the coolest part of the attraction.

Don't feel alone or out of the loop though. Everything you said was at one time either officially announced by Universal or just fan-site rumors that went over-board. Like you, I too fell for all the hype and rumors, and I can tell you that although it is a very good ride, it was WAY overhyped, but of course this is based on a techical rehearsal without everything working and/or installed. Oh, and by the way, for anyone who didn't know, despite Universal's press releases that announced an animatronic warrior Mummy that would "literally" leap onto rider's vehicles using some type of Mars Rover Technology, there is NO such nor will there be any such animatronic.

Really? Eh, unfortunately I didn't get to experience the rehearsals; my informatin is coming from the information that has been coming out of Uni Creative on what is planned. We'll find out if they are added or not.

OK perhaps I am wrong. But it will have some of the same basic ideas.

I cant wait, my annual pass night is May 23!! This ride looks so awesome, I just find it hard to believe that the ride is going to be the same from technical rehersals to when it officialy opens, I think there is going to be some changes

Expect three "advanced" animatronic figures.....but nothing much more that will be extremely obvious. Also, certain adjustements to audio, pacing, lighting, etc. to enhance the overall experience, but no major new show elements. I could be very surprised since I don't know for sure, but that is all that I'm expecting. (And hopefully a new ending...)

I went during the tech preview....it is great, but it was still missing a lot of stuff.

I heard the official opening is 5/22, but it should be back open 5/14.
