In regards to Christmas style lights, marker lights and such current LED lights work great but the technology is just not there yet for them to start replacing the typical 60w incandescent, 100w flood, or 50w halogen spot with LED. Give it a couple of years and they will be.
Correct. I have seen some LED halogen spot light MR16 replacements and while the cost is acceptable the light output (25w) is not. There seems to be some new LED manufacturing process on the horizon that will not only bring the power up and the cost down. It is just a matter of time. The technology is already with us, its more a matter of retro-fit costs and form factor.
LEDs really don't work nearly as well for retrofits as to get the maximum efficiency out of them you need a much different housing style than incandescent and arc sources.
What's not to like? They have a brighter, cleaner color, use less electricity, produce almost no heat and last considerably longer.Ugh. I hate LEDs.
Sounds like the "shiny new toy" effect. Something new and cool comes out and before you know it everyone and their brother has it and the cool factor gets replaced with "oh yeah....another one of those."Color cycling and other "look at the cool LEDs" effects that so many lighting designers fall pray to is one reason not to like them, but like all new technology that stuff will fade away.
The color is not comparable, to me. One day I'm sure they will be but right now, I don't think they're near as bright and pretty. What's not to like? They have a brighter, cleaner color, use less electricity, produce almost no heat and last considerably longer.
