As we thought during the installation phase, many of the lights are now LEDs. The buildings closest to the Stunt Show are particularly noticable, in white and blue LED. Very very bright - bring your sunglasses for looking at those two!

AP holders are being handed out special effect glasses that give some extra sparkle to the show.

Where do we (AP holders) get these glasses?

They are the glasses that allow angels to appear next to each twinkling light. I still have my old pair from the years the Lights went up on Residential Street.

Back then, on Residential Street, the Lights were spaced far enough part that, when wearing the glasses, angels appeared next to each and every light. We still take them out during Christmastime at our house and look at our tree and see the angels next to every light.

When the Lights moved to The City (BIG MISTAKE) the glasses were not part of the show for the Guests. Guest Relations had said it was because the lights had to lay so much closer together on the facades so that they could all fit. As a result the angel effect would not work b/c the lights were so very close together, it caused a blurry effect.

I'm glad something was done to bring the glasses back, but wonder why they are only for AP holders (which I am one) when they were FREE for ALL guests back in the glory days of Residential Street, the far superior show.

According to the Passholder section of the WDW website, the special 3-D glasses for AP holders are available at the package pick-up location (front of the park, near Oscar's when you enter).
Thanks. I didn't think to look in the Passholder site.:hammer:

The glasses are free for annual and seasonal passholders at package pick-up. They are available for $1 at most retail locations inside the park for everyone else.

Such a shame that they charge when it used to be free for ALL guests. (And I am an AP holder.)

They were very very cool with the new LED lights. Not all of them are LED, but enough to make it very noticeable. They also were selling a light-up dancing mug with hot chocolate in it. Two carts sold out of them last night! The AP glasses don't do much but make you dizzy.:ROFLOL: They also had a Lighting Crew long sleeve shirt that was very cool.

Regarding the LED's....I spoke to the "Guy in charge" last night and according to him it is around 80% LED and it really shows. Only a handful of buildings and some of the backgrounds use the conventional lights and it is quite noticeable. It should be nearly 100% LED by next year save the rope lighting.

Of what I was told, Disney wants to completely switch over to LED's in the park. Some of the boats have them. A friend of mine had discussions with Disney and some of the LEDs are just not up to Disney standards and will be too noticeable.

In regards to Christmas style lights, marker lights and such current LED lights work great but the technology is just not there yet for them to start replacing the typical 60w incandescent, 100w flood, or 50w halogen spot with LED. Give it a couple of years and they will be.

So are the glasses basically just 3-D glasses (the new ones, not the old red & blue)? If so, I have about a dozen pairs from movies and such. I know it's cheap to wanna save a couple of bucks but if that's all the are then why not stick a pair I already have in my pocket the night we go there.

They are not 3d glasses. The have kind of a pearlesent coating on them and it makes a kind of rainbow/kaleidescope effect around the lights. Personally I would not have gotten them unless the were free. At most I would have gotten one pair for the family.
