If only you got a chance to see them on residential street. Much better than it is now, IMHO.

Yes it was but I must say last years was much better than the year before.

The element that residential street had over streets of America was depth. Streets of America is basically flat buildings fronts where as residential street had deep porches and yards that just added so much to the display.

Yes, the Jennings Osborne (note- there is no "u") family is from Little Rock, Arkansas. You can get all the back story for the lights at their family website www. jenningsosbornefamily.com.

The light display at the home (actually 3 homes, side-by-side) was so enormous (5+ million lights) that it drew TONS of people and clogged the roads. A few miserly neighbors got upset and sued the family. The trial was big news in the south, and even received national coverage. Anyway, the family lost the trial and the following year (94), the lights were turned on and Mr. Osborne was found in contempt of court. In the summer of 1995, he was contacted by the folks at Disney about the possibility of moving his lights to a neighborhood where the neighbors would not get mad at him (Residential Street). That Christmas, 1995, was the first year of the lights at MGM. And the lights have been there ever since, except for the year during the construction of the stunt show.

There is absolutely no relation to the Ozzy Osbourne family! This Osborne family's roots are firmly planted in Arkansas. I know because they are family- my mother-in-law is Mr. Osborne's sister (if the storyboard is still up at the light display, she's in a picture or two). So, that makes him my hubby's uncle. They are a very nice, caring, giving family... and I'm proud to know them! :) :)

If any of you are there the week after Christmas through New Year's, keep an eye out for them... they will be there and usually do a light "turn-on" one night of the visit.
