Osborne Lights question

Can anyone tell me about how long a "show" is with the lights?
I ask for one main reason. The time i'm visiting, I want to see both the Lights and Fantasmic, and want to know if it's possible to do both in one night.

According to the park hours as they are now, it shows Fantasmic showing at 6:30 each night during my stay. I was hoping to spend only one day at HS. As it stands now, I'll see the Lights on December 8, and head over to HS on the 7th in the late afternoon, just to see Fantasmic before I head over to DTD to see La Nouba at 9:00pm.

The Osborne Festival of Dancing Lights at DHS runs continuously after sunset until park closing. There's no specific "show" but many crowd the streets to be there for when the lights are first turned on.

It seems the displays cycle throughout the evening, with the lights sometimes appearing relatively sedate and other times highly energetic. I've never timed it but guess it "snows" (soap suds) about once every 30 minutes and some of the more dazzling displays seem to repeat themselves at least once every hour. Even though I've hung out in the area for as long as 2 hours straight I've never paid close enough attention to be sure how often some of the displays repeat themselves.

I do want to be there when they turn the lights on, so that's part of my puzzle I'm trying to solve.

If you go on a night when there are 2 Fantasmic showings, you can see the lights turn on and see Fantasmic...otherwise, I'd recommend doing Fantasmic first and then heading over to Osborne Lights. I know with this plan you'll miss the actual lighting of the lights, but honestly- it really doesn't take anything away from the experience to show up after they've been lit...especially since they dance so often. The first time we saw the lights...we watched the 6:30p showing of Fantasmic and then headed over to the lights right after. The second time...we were there for the turning on of the lights...which on our night was around 6:15p. The plan was to head over to the second showing of Fantasmic...but we decided we preferred being in the lights to Fantasmic, so we made the executive decision to skip it. :D

If they add more shows of Fantasmic, good.
Right now I'm just going with the fact that the December calendar only shows Fantasmic running at 6:30.

That's how it was the first time we went...which also happened to be a December trip. I just don't think it's possible to see the lighting of Osborne Lights and see Fantasmic on a 1-showing nt w/o risking not getting in to Fantasmic.

One of the fun things to do at the Osborne lights is to find the family “cat”. It was
an Osborne tradition to hide the cat (in lights) somewhere in the display each year. Disney has
carried on the tradition over the years. It can be a challenge to find, but a fun activity in addition
to the light show.

We were introduced to the search for the purple cat last year...kiddos had so much fun looking for it.

We also really like to grab some hot cocoa and last visit, my girls and I decided dancing in the streets while the lights were stationary would be fun.

Assuming Fantasmic isn't full, you could probably see the lights turn on, watch for a couple minutes and still get over to the theater to see Fantasmic. I know I could.

If I had to pick between the two, I'd see the lights. :)

OK - just an opinion.

We've been to Fantasmic, and to the Osborne Lights MANY times.

When you have a chance to go to the Osborne Lights? Don't run thru them telling everyone that you have "10 minutes to Fantasmic". DUMP Fantasmic. You will hate me now - you will understand later :).
I've settled on doing what I said in my OP.

December 7- start out at MK, head over to HS for Fantasmic Dining and show, then over to DTD for La Nouba that night.
December 8- all day at HS, and give the lights the time they deserve.

A very good plan. I see so many people rush through like Clark Griswold checking off fountains in European Vacation. I find an out of the way place somewhere in the middle and park it until I have heard the entire audio loop.

December 8 is a PM EMH night at HS, so I can see the Lights and still have plenty of time to hit more rides afterwards.
