Osborne Lights ending for good (or not) due to Star Wars expansion?

In an earlier post about the new Star Wars-themed Land set to open at Hollywood Studios, it was mentioned that the Osborne Lights would no longer run anymore due to this new expansion. Is this confirmed, or just a rumor?

It would be very sad to see them go as they are, in my mind, Disney's most impressive holiday display. But, of course, turning that area of the park into something that is popular year-round instead of only 2 months of the year would be better for the park as a whole.

Nothing really stops the O-Lights from being moved to a different location. The nice thing about the current location though is that it really didn't bind up traffic to a different attraction. True you have to go around it to get to some attractions but you are not standing in line with the lights flashing around you.

I would definitely hate to see them go. They are my favorite part of Christmas at WDW. I think they could be moved to another part of the park if needed, though I think they fit perfectly on the Streets of America.

I'm ok with them moving to Epcot. Build something new reusing what they have in future world from the back of the fountain through the entrance to the World Showcase. Just think of what they could do there with all that room, or least use parts from Osbourne to restring LOW and call it a day.

I can honestly say that if Osborne lights are no more, our December trips will go away as well. Osborne Lights are really the last significant holiday overlay left in WDW. LoW are gone, CBJ Xmas was axed years ago and the decorations seem to get scaled back every year.

I am fine with a year or two hiatus during construction, but if this is a permanent removal, this will be the last straw for us.

Geez, people getting ed about some lights going away, what would you guys rather have, twinkling lights two months a year or a MUCH needed park expansion?

Both?

We'll have to see what the plans end up looking like, but the main concern that I have is that there should be plenty of other space to use to fit in Star Wars/Cars/other Pixar without removing the SoA -- if they already intend to remove Backlot Tour/LMA/IJ stunt show/American Idol, plus with backstage areas and unused space(Sounds Dangerous/Soundstage 1/Premiere theater) they can do a very large expansion while keeping the Streets of America intact and keeping the lights.

Or they can just convert the SoA into Monstropolis and still use it as a canvas for the Osborne Lights.

Why does it have to be either or? I don't see any reason we can't have both at some point in the future. I have no problem with them going away for construction. Surely out of the approx. 43 square miles of property they own they can find a place to put these lights.

How could they possibly remove the lights when DHS has the most capacity during that time then any other time during the year? I don't believe the speculation and if it is true, DHS will move to the bottom for people visiting among the 4 parks.

Both, I refuse to make concessions on such a matter when these parks are starving for ALL the entertainment they can get. Christmas decorations in particular have been gradually dumbed down over the years in the other parks already, it'll be a pretty wretched blow to the WDW holiday offerings if they don't keep the lights, put them elsewhere, or find some other suitable light-based replacement that can live up to them. So yes it's well within reason to complain if they do away with the lights and don't address the omission in a proper manner. They're a massive draw for the park during the holidays. Whether the expansion happens or not, the attendance levels would be substantially lower during that time of the year without the Osborne Lights either way.

We need additions to current entertainment, not just replacements (replacements that we can't even say with any certainty will even be as good as what they replaced).
