Orlando for Xmas and no theme parks

Hi all - I am thinking about taking the family to Orlando for Christmas week, but not going to Disney or Universal due to crowds. What would you do in Orlando outside of the major theme parks? I plan on booking one of the nicer non-disney hotels, but other than pool what can we do?

About 10 years ago I scored an excellent rate at Wilderness Lodge at Christmas time ($129/night ). My birthday is on the 25th so even though our passes were blacked out, I booked anyways. Most of the days were spent resort hopping. All the resorts have great holiday decor, themed gingerbread displays, lemonade and cookies in the afternoon. We did lots of pin trading, ate at different resorts, watched the fireworks and electric Water Pageant, spent time in the pool. They also have free nighttime movies. There's lots to do.
If only those times returned...

The problem is that was in the center of the housing crash. So the prices now are such a burden. Then, they were offering a week with tickets starting at $1600...try to price anything out now and see where you get...just be seated first 😉

We usually take a day and explore other options outside of Disney. There are many many interesting things to do besides WDW, Uni and Sea World. I couldnt begin to list them all, just put in your search, activities in Orlando or activities outside of WDW and you will get lots of suggestions. Weve enjoyed Medieval times, several different dinner theaters, Ripleys museum, Kennedy space center, and lots more entertaining choices. Disney gets most of our time and money but I think its a shame people travel so far to the area, and dont take advantage to see other things besides Mickey.
