Orlando airport to DTD help?

The last day of my trip in August, my cruise docks at Port Canaveral at 7:30 A.M. I have transportation arranged already back to the airport.. problem is my flight isn't until 7:30 P.M. I know it takes a couple hours to leave the ship and be transported to the airport, and security takes an hour or two before my flight leaves, but do you guys think I'd be able to go to DTD for a few hours? Maybe grab lunch there and do some shopping? What would be the best way to get there.. taxi, bus, rent a car for the day?

And will the airport check in my luggage that early?

I got stuck at Orlando airport last July for a good 20 something hours due to a delayed and then eventually cancelled flight, and I just cannot imagine sitting in terminal b for more than is truly necessary.

Any help is appreciated!!

don't take public transportation. haha. nothing wrong with Lynx, it was clean, on time and efficient. However... in November I flew in to orlando while my family was driving. I decided to take public transportation to epcot. I mapped out the route and with 2 transfers I was at epcot 3 hours later. It's not their fault but I value my vacation time and next time I will take Mears or a cab. Still had a great day.

You should have time but I would price the rental cars first then look into a cab or hired car service to make sure you can get back to the airport on time. Do you realize most prices on line from the Disney Store are cheaper than Downtown Disney or the parks. Its also free shipping if you spend a certain amount? I go to Disney 3 or more times a year and always buy off the web site. The small world dolls are $29.99 on line and $36.99 at Disney for example. Also remember Downtown Disney is all under construction right now due to Disney Springs being built.
