My younger brother remembers 2 rides from his young childhood visits to WDW, Figment and Small World.

So, I started to ponder which was the more important ride to keep if one was to be removed (I cannot say changed, because the ride was not changed, it was totally removed as far as I am concerned).

WDW's Small World is already a bare bones version of the fantastic Disneyland version. No outdoor show building. Much shorter. Feels very boxy and closed in.

But, Small World is a nearly untouchable classic. Might be just as important as Dumbo for parents with first timers.

On the other hand, the original Imagination ride was such a deep tapestry of sight and sound. If any Epcot pavillion truly fit its theme correctly, it was this one. They pulled out EVERY trick in the book and mashed it into one ride. This attraction really was both a dream and a nightmare Fantasmic all rolled into one.

Now, turning back time, If you could pick one of these attractions to hold on to and one to let go, which would it be.

Would fans be much more upset about Small World being gone over us fanatics today that think removing Imagination was one of Disney Worlds greatest crimes to date?

While that might be true for your little brother it is not true for the majority of people. Ask 10 random people what IASW is and I'll wager that all 10 will know. Pose the same question about Figment and you will be lucky to find 2 who don't look at you like you have lobsters crawling out of your ears. The simple fact is that the Man himself had a hand in IASW and that fact alone buys it a permeate place in Disney theme park history and has made it a staple in every Disney MK-esque park. JII has no such connection and is therefore expendable in the eyes of most people.

You have to admit, large numbers of guests loathe IASW. No where near those numbers ever loathed Imagination

Only because no one knows about it :ROFLOL::)

More people love its a small world then Figment though. I dont mind figment that much i just dont get why people love him so much. Out of all the amazing characters they like a stanky boring dinosaur!?? haha

This is not my brothers point of view or mine, just thought it would be a fun discussion starter to see how committed Figment fanatics are to their cause.

I am very on the fence, but lean to getting rid of IASW because I also visit Disneyland. Many do not. That would be a huge difference breaker if the DL version were gone.

Im just messing. Sorry figment fans :p

i was serious though. when you said dinosaur it made me unsure of what he actually was! is he a dragon or is he a dinosaur? or is he just a figment of our imagination (aka: whatever we think he is)?

I voted to keep it's a small world.

It is a timeless classic, managing to be both bold and simplistic at the same time. It is also an iconic Disney attraction, one that belongs in every Magic Kingdom.

Journey Into Imagination was a nice attraction, and I certainly lament that attempts at updating it fell so incredibly short, but I also just don't feel the same love for it so many people do.

This is a very tuff question and vote to cast. I love them both. To me IASW is a classic in MK. The DWF and I ride this ride all the time and feel it belongs at MK. It's a very special ride that is just a part of the park. With it missing would be like losing a very close dear friend. Now I love the origional JII but do not feel as connected to it as IASW. Honestly if I could have them both then I would. If I had to choose based on todays version of imagination then I would have to say goodbye figment.

There is honestly no comparison. IASW is a Disney classic and one of the few attractions Walt himself had a hand in, it has incarnations in almost every Disney park and is well known, even by people who have never even visited a Disney park. While the theme song to the attraction makes me want to drive nails into my ears to stop the torture, it is a beloved attraction by many families so even compariing it to original JII is like comparing apples and oranges.

The original JII was only experienced in a single park and has been extinct for 10+ years, outside of the few of us who were fortunate to experience it in person during its hayday, not many people know it even existed. So asking people if they like it better than IASW is pretty much pointless because as you have seen with a few responses here most people have only experienced the current JIYI version which leaves much to be desired. Again....apples and oranges.

To be honest, IASW is a DISNEYLAND classic. Disney World's is a shell of the former pandering to squeeze the attraction in. I would feel totall different if Ariel's Grotto was replaced with a full blown version of awesomeness that the original is.

Figment: Figment is meant to be the literal embodiment of the phrase "figment of the imagination". He is composed of various elements Dreamfinder found in his travels including two tiny wings, large yellow eyes, the horns of a steer, a crocodile's snout, and the childish delight found at a birthday party.

"Two tiny wings, eyes big and yellow, horns of a steer, but a lovable fellow. From head to tail, he's royal purple pigment, and there, voila, you've got a Figment."

not a dragon or a dinosaur :hammer:
