Orange County Deputies at MGM - Why?

Yesterday (Monday the 14th) around 5:30 or 6:00, there were two Orange County deputies at the MGM bus stop, along with quite a gathering of Disney security, both uniformed and plain clothed. Anyone know what was going on? I found the presence of the deputies in plain view a bit unusual...

I don't know what it was. I know I went down there one time and there were alot of police and fire units onscene at DTD near Cirque du Soleil(sp?) and it turned out that someone had sprayed an irritating substance on the pay phones outside the bathrooms there.

This is not unusual. There are always Orange County deputies all over property, especially at park entrances.

Not uncommon

I wouldn't read much into it. It could have been more than a dozen things from casual conversation to discussion about a problem like shop lifting or a car that was broken into (the most common events that involve the police).

I think Disney has done quite a good job of maintaining security over the years and in particular post 9/11. Half of what any security force does is to maintain a presence for the peace of mind of their audience and to thwart the casual criminal and the other half observing and reporting for local law enforcement. My compliments. I have seen a dozen or so run-ins with security during my years as a cast member or guest and have always seen them act professionally and not overstep their bounds, even when one was physically assaulted on Pleasure Island weeks after it opened. The security guard was about my size and the perpetrator a skinny waif of a teenager who sucker punched him after being hauled out of a store for shoplifting. I was impressed the security guard had so much restraint; I, on the other hand, would have ripped the guys head off. Perhaps that's why I worked in CRO...

OSCO has offices all over WDW property, and are always there.

Odds are, it was probably someone caught shoplifting or a fight broke out. These things do happen from time to time

In my world, Monday was the 14th. However, since this incident occurred at MGM, I have the explanation:

"You're traveling through another dimension -- a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's a signpost up ahead: your next stop: the Twilight Zone!"

There was a uniformed officer at the "security" check at EPCOT on Saturday when we went there. I did not pay much attention, but its nice to know that they do make an appearance from time to time.
