Opinions?

I am having a hard time choosing a meal for one day of our trip. Due to Dining Plan credits, I need it to be table service. This will be my 20+ trip, but my very first time taking me husband & 2 children...will be 2 and 4 when we go. We are staying at the Contemporary. The day is the middle of our trip, and we are spending the morning at Hollywood Studios followed by rest/back to Magic Kingdom to do fireworks. So we can do lunch at Hollywood - thinking Sci Fi? Or we can go eat somewhere on the monorail - either Ohana or Kona Cafe. Does anyone have strong opinions for or against any of these???

What about Chef Mickey's? You can book a late lunch or early dinner following HS. This way you are a quick monorail ride from MK and you could stop in the room and take a rest/drop off any accumulated souvenirs if needed.

What about Hollywood & Vine at HS? Your kids are the perfect age for the characters there. We really enjoyed Sci-Fi too, and my daughter really loved being able to eat in the car booths.

I looked at that, but neither of my children are really into the characters there. I think Sci Fi would be our best bet. Thank you so much for your help!!

In DHS Sci-Fi is good, we prefer 50’s PTC. On the monorail as mention Kona Café or Grand Floridian Café or the Wave are all good. You are not that far from EPCOT, anywhere in the World Showcase or The Garden Grill are also possibilities.

'Ohana serves breakfast until noon. That would be a good option for kids of those ages. Mind you, we also really like Kona, but if you're looking for something that might play double duty that feeds and entertains...it's got no major kiddie entertainment aspects.

Sci-Fi offers great ambiance, and is a real "only at Disney" experience. The food is fine or average, but isn't the selling point of eating there.

'Ohana is probably the most popular restaurant on property, based on discussions here and that it is one of the harder reservations to get.

'Ohana is all you can eat, and one option is to combine lunch and dinner into a mid-afternoon meal.

I like both and would choose based on whether or not you want an experience (Sci-fi) or a delicious meal ('Ohana).

Sci Fi is a fun atmosphere, dining in a semi-dark drive in theatre car. The young kids may enjoy the film clips which includes a variety of old 50s sci fi movies spots, with some cartoons. The area is semi-dark so if your young ones dont mind the slight darkness then I'd do it because of its uniqueness.

Given a choice, I will take Ohana over most any restaurant in Disney. The food has always been good, I love being at the Poly, and the kids always like the coconut races. It is one of the best all around restaurants as far as food quality and atmosphere. And that is why its my only must do meal each trip.

Another vote here for Ohana! It is a must do on the last day of every trip, partly because the reservation is so hard to get. I'd also look at 1900 Park Fare at the Floridian for a change of pace with characters that are hard to find elsewhere, and maybe Whispering Canyon at the Wilderness Lodge (although it just won't be the same without the shinanigans)

I went to Sci-Fi in June and actually enjoyed their food. I got a BBQ cheeseburger (whatever they call it). I would say the food quality reminded me of Applebees or Ruby Tuesday. My issue with Sci-Fi is that I don't think it is worth using a dining credit on for what food they offer. I paid out of pocket and went to 'Ohana for breakfast on the last day of my trip instead, which was a better to way to use my dining credit.

The Wave would win hands down for me but it wouldn’t be entertaining for the kids. Very good food and great service.

I’ve been to Kona twice in the last few weeks and won’t be returning.

Ohana is a a great choice but we have recently fallen in love with 1900 Park Fare. We own at VGF and have spent a lot of time there recently and it is, as a previous poster said, one of the best buffets on property. The catch is that there is no lunch. The last breakfast seating is at 11:50 am and the first dinner seating is at 4:00 pm so it may just not work. Ohana is little bit more flexible with breakfast until 12 noon and dinner starting at 3:30 pm but again no traditional lunch.
