Opinions please on Park tickets

Hi all!!!
I posted in another sub forum about my first dilemma, suite in AOA vs LM rooms.....now I think I am set but here is my other dilemma, any opinions are greatly appreciated!

my plans as of now, 6 day BASE tickets with QS dining
my husband had a little input and this is what he suggested:

4 park days, with park hoppers and then the other two days we will wing it and buy tickets when we get there to the water parks or just use those days to chill by the pool.

THOUGHTS??

Don't buy days that you are not sure you are going to use. You can add days to your ticket as you need them. However, and this is very important, you must have at least one day left on your ticket to add days to it. You will not be able to add days if you decide to do so on the end of day 4.

No, let's say you bought a 4 day ticket. If you want to add additional days, you must do it before you use it the 4th time. So on day 3 you need to decide if you will need additional days.

Lets say you have a 4 day ticket. Each day you go into one or more of the 4 theme parks uses 1 day (with park hopping you could go to all 4 parks in one day and it would still only count as 1 day on your tickets). You must upgrade that ticket before you enter a park on the 4th day.

if your dh wants to hop and do the water parks, maybe a 4 day park hopper with water park fun & more option is the best bet. full retail per person, it's $59 to add park hopping to a 4 day ticket, $84 to add hopping and water park fun & more. this option will allow you guys to hop from park to park on each day, and give you one 'water park fun and more' option per day. so you'd get 4 visits to either water park, either mini golf course, or disney quest.

Our family has been there numerous times and we still don't get the park hoppers. We find there is enough to do in each park that we spend the whole day there and don't have to hop around. It seems like wasted money for us to get them.

From my POV, I go to WDW to be in the parks and not sit by a pool. I can sit by a pool at home. But we tour commando, so that is just our preference. But I do think 2 whole days to "chill", is a bit much. You could always "chill" for the morning and hit a park in the evening, but you would still need another day's ticket for that.

The water parks do add another dimension to it, so it's really just a matter of running the prices for each scenerio and see what is the most beneficial to you.

that is also something to look into thank you, I will do the math and see how it works out, the only thing with that option is having a water park ticket for every day we stay and i hate to waste it, if i am thinking of it that way correctly kwim

If you get park hopping and go to a water park just once, you are better off getting the option on your tickets.

Parkhopping costs $63.
Parkhopping AND water park is $90
A single day at a water park is $57.
Adding the option would save you $30/person.

The water park option also allows you do go to Disney Quest.

There is about a $10 difference between 4-Day and 5-Day base ticket. Adding PH & Waterparks and More will add an additional $84.

Given your time period, I'd at least get a 5-Day base ticket. You could use the extra day to rest in between...parks for 2 or 3 days and then a rest day and then parks for 3 or 2 days. There are the resort pools and activities, as well as DTD.

I'm pretty sure you can upgrade any MYW ticket while it can still be used, so it can be upgraded on the last day of admission. If you enter a park using the last available admission, you can still leave that park and re-enter the park [or other parks if you have Hopper].

@Rob562 can jump in and correct me if I'm wrong, but you don't have to upgrade while on the 3rd day of a 4-day ticket. You can upgrade any time during the 4th day.

That's what i was also thinking, do 5days with hoppers and use 1 day to not go to a park in between days....so much to consider

This was a change done a couple of years ago. Before that you could upgrade a fully used up ticket up to 14 days after first use.

https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/faq/tickets/upgrades/

If it is within 14 days of a Magic Your Way theme park ticket’s first use and the ticket has remaining admissions, you are able to upgrade the ticket. If it is more than 14 days after first use or if no admissions remain, then a ticket may not be modified or upgraded.

It comes down to the interpretation of "remaining admissions". If you can still use the ticket to enter or re-enter a park, I believe that you still have a "remaining admission" on that ticket.

We were always told that it had to have a day left on it, but like most things at Disney, I am sure there is a workaround if you decide to upgrade after entering a park on that lat day. However, to be safe and not have any surprises I would upgrade on day 3 of a 4 day ticket.
