Opinions on the Grosvenor

My wife and I are looking at booking a last minute trip for next weekend and almost everything affordable at WDW is already booked up. I found some very cheap rates for the Grosvenor on hotels.com. The pictures make it look like the place is ok and it's close to downtown Disney. Any thoughts on this hotel and if you've stayed there how well do their shuttles to the parks work?

The place is OK but just barely. It is definitely not up to the quality of any of the Disney resorts. The shuttle service is bad at best.

It will do in a pinch but if you are flying in I would look at renting a car.

Stayed there once a few years ago, and was not impressed. Just old, rundown and overpriced. I'd have to say your deal should be under $50 or you could probably priceline something nicer/better for about the same rate. FWIW.

We stayed there last week mainly because of its proximity to DTD (from hotels.com no less!). We actually got transferred from our first room since the glass door was broken. :lookaroun

We ended up getting a tower room facing out across the entire resort, but don't know if you'd have the same luck. (Or un-luck to have to stay in the "broken glass" room. )

We wound up booking rooms at the hilton for only about 30 dollars more a night. The reviews for the Hilton were much nicer than the ones for the Grosvenor.

my parents and i stayed there a few years ago and hated it.

The bus takes you to the transportation center so you have to take the monorail or another bus to the parks. Coming back from the parks we ended up getting a bus to DTD and walking over. Saratoga springs is close enough you could walk there and get a direct bus to any park.

The rooms aren't great either. Walking into the lobby I thought the hotel would be nice but its rundown. We had to leave a day early because of a family friend's death and wern't sad to be leaving the hotel at all.

I had a last second trip to the Disney area about a year ago and stayed at the Grosvenor. I ended up sleeping there two nights and then finding another hotel. I don't mind staying in subpar hotels, but for some reason this place really didn't fly with me. It's filthy.

A couple of times when we tried to book a last minute trip during busy season, the only rooms left on property were at the Grosvenor. So that ought to tell you something! We stayed there once. It was okay...better than staying off property, unless you have your own car. But I would reccomend staying somewhere else.
