I understand her rather let them expire than bother with the tax mess, and maybe having to get a professional ta prepare to do her taxes to correctly handle the rental income. As you have said, there is not DVC availability left between now and Jan 31. But maybe whoever takes them can use them at the extras collection--WDW resort hotels. It is a high use of points, but still better than just letting them expire. I don't know if that would require your mom to make the arrangements. If so, she probably would not want to. Just a thought.
Oh. I forgot that was even an option. Do you have to call to do that?

I think so.
Just looked at the info on Member website. Looks like that is not an option, as Rule of 4 applies. Hopefully someone who knows more will chime in.
Yes rule of 4 makes this a no go option. At this point I think II is out now too (just realized the date). Maybe book and rent confirmed reservations?

I’ll most likely just keep bugging our limited pool of friends. And when that doesn’t work out I’ll let it go.
But I appreciate all your help for next time we have leftover points. In all the years of having DVC my mom has never not used her points. Just one more “cost of Covid” I guess. Hopefully all our current plans are able to happen!

It is really not that big of a tax issue. You rent them out for $3,000 and you pay $1,700 in dues. $3,000 - $1,700 = $1,300 in "other income"
