only a vague memory - maybe someone can help!

First off, I know this is a long shot, but I have a vague memory from a childhood trip that's been bugging me :brick:

Basically, I went twice, once in July 1997 and again in the summer of 1999. I'm not sure which trip this particular memory stems from, but I suspect it was 1997 since I was younger for that one and remember it less. Anyway, I remember big construction walls up at one of the parks, but I can't for the life of me remember which one! Now I'm trying to figure out what might have been behind them! I feel like they were near the entrance of the park, but again, it's vague, so that might not be accurate.

Any thoughts would be appreciated, I'd love to solve this little mystery!

Considering that there are almost always walls up somewhere at one of the Disney Parks, this might be a hard order to fill.

I was there in July of 1997. I remember walls at Epcot in France. Walls in DTD for the Lego Store and WoD (I think) Other than those two...that's all I remember specifically.

Leave a Legacy at Epcot is the only major project near the entrance of a park I can come up with for that timeframe. It launched in Fall 1999 so there were probably walls up that summer.

well, I know it was at a park, not downtown disney or a resort, and I know it wasn't animal kingdom.... I know that doesn't narrow it down much.....

I also remember walking between the walls though, they made like a path.... and I know it wasn't at world showcase.....

Leave a legacy is a definite possibility....

In one of my guide books from 04 it lists dates that things opened. In 97 it was only in DTD. In 98 there was Buzz, new Tiki room, and Fantasmic. In 99 Sounds Dangerous, Kali River Rapids, Test Track, RnR coaster, and Winnie the Pooh. Lots of possibilities!

I would also have to go with LAL. I did open late 99' and that would have left the entrance loaded with construction walls during summer 99'.
I cannot think of anything for summer 97'

youre definiely looking for a pin in a huuuuge haystack on this one :lookaroun

Haha yeh I know!

I think I'm siding with the people who are saying LAL... I really felt like it was during my 1997 trip since we were only 2 that trip and 4 in 1999 and I don't remember being with a group and trying to navigate the maze of walls, but nothing else seems to make sense.

I have all the park maps from both trips and none seem to be showing the walls I remember. The 1999 Epcot one shows planters where the LAL is...

Oh well, I'll tell myself it was LAL and let the mystery rest :D

Thanks guys!

In 1997 there was a construction wall at the entrance to the Studios. David Copperfield was supposed to have a restaurant/attraction there, and there was a construction wall announcing this "coming attractin". As you walked up from the boat launch to Epcot/Resorts, it was on the right.

I did the CP in the main gate area in 1997, I remember it well!

Test Track opened in 1999, perhaps it was that?

I don't remember any walls being up at Test Track at that time. The building was there in 99, and it looked like it was open. I remember people kept walking up to it and being turned away. I think we can elimnate Test Track.

I did the test track in 99 (and LOVED it!), so that definitely wasn't it!

As for the David Copperfield restaurant, that is also a possibility and fits with my feeling that it was in 97 and not 99. Were the walls around that one set up so you would have to walk between them though?

No, it was just the one wall on the right. I *think* it was green. It was around the time that they were constructing the Fantasmic Theater.

I'm thinking it was most likely your 1999 trip, and it was the Epcot front entrance construction you remember.

This is how it looked early-on in the construction:

I've seen other photos showing just a narrow "corridor" to the left of center between the new central planter and the completed LaL stones to the left. That's probably what you saw as the project was nearing its Fall 1999 completion.

You can also see walls up in the central plaza between SSE and the fountain, where they built the central info desk and pin store.
