It's not that new. Been around for years now.
I had about 25 check-ins after the online thing started. Some I did the online thing, some I didn't. But I kept track of how often the online line would have had me through quicker. I have nothing else to do while standing in line, lol. Everyone else is off in the gift shop or whathaveyou. They have the fun, I have the chore of standing in line.
Online line was faster a little less than 3/4 of the time. For me. In my experience. Other people swear it is faster 100% of the time...and I'm not arguing that for them, it wasn't! I'm sure it was. My experience was different.
When it is faster, that's great. When it is slower, that sucks. But any line that is slower is the sucky line, lol.

if you have questions vs just signing your name and being handed your kttk card then don't do it. also speed of the process is relative to the number of people in the online check in line who should have waited because they have 20 questions and the cm checking you in. i love the cms who say here's your stuff any questions...i say no and in like 30 seconds i am on my way...other cm's seem to feel they need to go over every piece of paper no matter how many times you tell them you don't need them to. that's when i feel like i wasted my time doing online check in.

Online checkin + car service = huge time savings
We use a car service instead of ME for our arrival so that we do not get stuck in line with 20 other people who also did online check-in. If you are looking to streamline things to the max I recommend it. We have also found that we get better treatment by bell services and CM's in general when arriving solo and not with a group of people. Just our $0.02.
