A brand-new retheme of the dying Journey Into Imagination with Figment brings us back into the beauty of the original with Dive into Imagination, a suspended dark ride featuring a ride vehicle lineup of none other than Dream Finder's magical submersibles - the Red, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, and Violet submarines! Each submarine has its unique "feelings" and preferences that make your journey into the Seas of Imagination (a literal ocean of the mind) special - perhaps in the Reality Reef, Blue Submarine make equations dance around the sea, and if you're in the Green Submarine, passing thought-fish would shout out interesting words ("dingleberry!"), and so on... As a replacement to the Submarine Voyage at Disneyland, this new darkride (a more modern version of a classic darkride) located in Fantasyland tells a new story that follows up the events of the hit movie, revealing what happened after the Madrigals fully regain their magic. During the ride, guests can spot a hidden yellow submarine in a mural. The reason why this ride is in Fantasyland and not in Adventureland is because of the movie's theme of magic.

Bonus: A sequel to Encanto is made within the next decade (or in this one) that builds upon the events of this ride.

I have to admit, Encanto was not something I expected out of this prompt, but a Beatles song could certainly come out of left field so I fully appreciate the pitch coming from that same direction. Would love to get a bit more detail on how the attraction fits in the submarine voyage space but putting the submarine in a mural of the attraction is spot on with Disney’s habit of easter eggs from previous attractions popping up in some fashion.

Bonus (+1) – As Thanos would say, an Encanto sequel feels inevitable at this point, so using this as your animated flick is completely on the spot.

Expedition Xibalba is a submarine ride in WDW's Adventureland that takes guests through a submerged Maya city in search of the mythical Tree Of Life.

Guests will board golden submarines decorated with motifs typical of Adventureland to dive deep into a cenote and into the lost Maya city of Xibalba, named after the underworld of Maya mythology said to be accessible by cenotes, where they will encounter many ancient temples, carved glyphs, statues of ancient deities, and even ancient Maya people frozen in time performing all sorts of ancient rituals before coming upon the mythical Tree of Life, followed by a return to the surface where guests unload.
View attachment 820611

I think I would know this was your pitch without seeing your screen name, but that just speaks to the passion I can tell you have for this type of material from your posts in the forum. WDW’s Adventureland is a mishmash of “adventure” themes, so this attraction would be far from out of place. I can see this being a visually pleasing ride and a spiritual successor in a way to 20k Leagues that left the park years ago. I’m assuming based on what’s inferred, this is a similar ride set up to 20K Leagues and Submarine Voyage, so a little more detail on the ride set up and placement would really help envision where and how this would go but love the visuals I get from your description.

View attachment 820617Whirlpool: you board a yellow submarine, are sucked into a whirlpool, and find yourself in the Marina Trench, where you see deep water sea life, and marvel at the utter silence and desolation at the bottom of the ocean. Suddenly, you encounter the kraken, who chases you in a cat-and-mouse chase, until another whirlpool pulls the yellow submarine to the surface and you live to tell the tale. The ride system will be a highly advanced simulator that moves, and gives each guest their own porthole, like the original Submarine Voyage.

edit: will be a replacement for Nemo and The Seas in EPCOT

A replacement for Nemo at EPCOT? I hear you. The attraction has some redeeming qualities, but something that harkens back in some way to The Living Seas, I am all for. The Mariana Trench is a great backdrop for your pitch, and who wouldn’t like an encounter with a kraken? Definitely 20k league vibes with this, which is sorely needed stateside. Curious about the simulator aspect of the attraction and if this is something in the vein of Star Tours or MFSR but with the portholes you referenced. Regardless, with today’s technology could see this being a thrilling ride if done properly.

Le Voyages Extraordinaires

An omnimover in Discoveryland in Disneyland Paris

Amazing Journeys is based on a new Pixar short about a boy named Jules, who runs away from home because of a rough upbringing (in France during the early 1800’s). In his mind him and his imaginary friend Figment go on an adventure, using only his imagination. He goes 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in a Yellow Submarine, To the Center of the Earth encountering Dinosaurs, Around the World in an Air Balloon and From the Earth to the Moon in a Rocketship.

figment_chasing_fear_by_juanpadraws_delh2j0-fullview.jpg

Bonus: Figment would have several other new Pixar Shorts as well, where he meets Dreamfinder and the emotions from Inside Out.

Disneyland Paris and Jules Verne is an inspired choice, and you ended up with two animated films when one, your Pixar short on Jules, would have fit the bill. Part of me wishes there was no Figment crossover involved, I think there’s plenty of meat for young Jules and his imaginary adventures tying into Jules real life works, but having the imaginary friend does give him a partner in crime in essence. More omnimovers Disney please. I can just picture the 2 (or 4?) seat omnimover vehicles molded out of little submarines. Such a fun experience!

Bonus (+1) – Begs the question why Disney doesn’t milk the you know what out of Figment when they see what his special merchandise does

"Disney Meet the Beatles"

It finally happened - Robert Iger announced today that The Walt Disney Company has purchased The Beatles in perpetuity, finally allowing theme park attractions based on the Fab Four to exist around the globe. First up, a hastily-put-together meet-and-greet officially titled Disney Meet The Beatles, in which you get to take pictures and interact with the Beatles within, what else, a Yellow Submarine (which, in a bid for the nostalgic folks out there, is the last remaining 20,000 Leagues submarine, exhumed from its watery grave at Castaway Cay for its new, much more profitable venture). Of course the most logical place for this attraction is Epcot, where you can meet the Beatles in World Nature (🤔).
View attachment 820660

BONUS: Disney creates a "Live-Action Remake" (CGI, entirely digitally animated) of the Beatles' film Yellow Submarine.

The tongue in cheek nature of this pitch is fitting from someone with the handle “Disgruntled Walt”. Buy Lucasfilm. Check. Buy Star Wars. Check. Buy Pixar. Check. Buy the Beat…..I would never but it past Iger to be so bold, but I will take any excuse to celebrate attraction nostalgia with a 20k leagues sub available for photo ops. It of course does make sense in World Nature, beginning a new British Invasion across EPCOT.

Bonus (+1) – I don’t know if the world is ready for another Yellow Submarine flick, but I’m here for it.

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring the Beatles
View attachment 820671
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster gets its long-awaited retheme featuring one of the most (if not THE most) beloved British rock bands of all time! The rethemed coaster allows guests to step back in time and meet John, Paul, George, and Ringo before hopping aboard stretch limos and taking a topsy-turvy ride through a psychedelic world very reminiscent of Yellow Submarine (and yes, the submarine from that movie does indeed make an appearance) accompanied by the Beatles' songs. It's all in the mind, y'know?

A Rock N Roller Coaster retheme is going to happen at some point, why not The Beatles? While I don’t know that The Beatles would be near the top of the list for music rethemes for Rock N Roll Coaster, I certainly would not turn it down. The fast paced nature of the coaster and the split second visuals available lines up perfectly with some well placed psychedelic elements spread throughout. Plenty of good songs to rotate (ala Guardians) on board the coaster.

Goofy’s Sandwich Scramble!

View attachment 820678

Coming soon to Toontown, Goofy searches for the perfect sandwich to snack on! Entering through Goofy’s house, guests board an indoor Whip ride, surrounded by projection mapping showing the countryside in the style of Runaway Railway and the Rudish cartoons, with Goofy’s yellow-tinted submarine sandwich in the center of the ride. When the ride begins, the sandwich is flung about the area by the speed of the ride, and Goofy must scramble to save his scrumptious sandwich before it is smushed!

Bonus:

Thanks to its popularity, a new short film in the Rudish style will be produced, based on the story of this ride!

I love the uniqueness of the pitch, and taking a whole new angle on the “yellow submarine”. This is a fitting goofy ride and would slot right into the Toon Town lineup with rides that runaway and spin. Goofy does have an attraction across the way, but I’m happy to disregard that for the creative use of the submarine. Even if I’m not enamored with the Rudish style for attractions (the toons I like), it makes sense given the direction Disney has already gone.

Bonus (+1) – I’m here for more shorts!

Expedition Atlantis

This epic E-ticket adventure, the headliner of a new DisneySea park (location TBD), takes guests deep beneath the surface in golden submarines in search of the fabled lost civilization of Atlantis. A spiritual successor to both Disneyland’s original Submarine Voyage and EPCOT’s Living Seas, the Expedition plusses, or expands, upon those attractions with techniques such as - but not at all limited to - dry-for-wet windows, more advanced Audio-Animatronics (including one of a fierce kraken), and blacklit bioluminescent environments.
Bonus
An animated short, starring some of the creatures featured in the attraction, will precede whatever is Walt Disney Animation Studios’ newest film by the time of the park’s opening.

Atlantis is one of those subject matters that would always make for a solid attraction, no matter which route you take. I have not been to Tokyo’s DisneySea, but this type of adventure does fit the mold, with whichever land it ended up in. I assume by a new DisneySea park, this would be a wholly new park built at another Disney resort, and thus avoiding the comparisons to 20K Leagues which would be in the same park in Tokyo. For a new DisneySea park, though this would be a solid, and updated addition to differentiate itself a bit from an existing attration.

Bonus (+1) – Love the idea of the creatures from the attraction making their way into a short leading into a feature film.

Aquatic Wonders of the Galaxy
View attachment 820776
Many guests have complained that Galaxy’s Edge is lacking a 3rd attraction that would complete the land, well this new expansion south of the land will hold it’s newest attraction, welcome to the most exotic and exciting seas in the galaxy. Guests will first go through an adventure outpost before they enter into one of 10 submarines that seat 20 people in each one to avoid the poor capacity in other submarine attractions. This attraction will visit several different underwater environments from around the Star Wars galaxy, from the clear waters of Naboo to ruins of the second Death Star, this attraction offers many different encounters with different species of underwater creatures (A yellow submarine is sold in the gift shop, I will explain no further).
View attachment 820775
Bonus:

Opening with the attraction is a Lego animation where Jar Jar explores the many different planets while somehow avoiding death several times.

I am a huge Star Wars fan and there are so many great environs to explore in the galaxy, with many of them underwater as you captured with this ride. Jar Jar and the Gungans weren’t exactly fan favorites when Phantom Menace came out, but their underwater city and journey through the planet of Naboo is ripe for exploration, and a ride! My only concern with this attraction is how it fits with Batuu and how does our sub get from planet to planet unless it’s something in the vein of Star Tours?

Bonus (+1) – Lego Jar Jar seems fitting and the animated adventure on par for his character

This honestly took longer than it was supposed to be.

Mr. Ray’s School Of Fish

View attachment 820792
Mr. Ray’s School Of Fish is a new interactive darkride (using a mix of Monsters Inc. Ride & Go Seek & Peter Pan’s Flight) located in EPCOT in the near expansion pad in between The Land and Seas With Nemo & Friends Pavilions. The ride is about Mr. Ray & Nemo inviting us to an exploration scavenger hunt in the ocean, and we try to impress Mr. Ray a little too much, as we end up going beyond the boundaries of the hunt and get swept up to many different locations in the Finding Nemo movies. As for where the Yellow Submarine is included in the ride, it’s used for the story aspect as Darla and Her Father decide to go scuba diving during our adventure, and Darla want some new fishies to “play” with.

Bonus

Just turn Crazy Chicken Little into a long musical shortflim, with Chicken Little getting into very weird situations.

Welcome again to the forums and your first foray into 1SC! As much dislike as the Nemofication of The Living Seas gets, I do think a Nemo attraction would wholly be fitting in as part of the OG pavilion. Mr. Ray works as a perfect introduction into the edutainment angle of what the park was/could still be. With your ride, are we losing the current Nemo attraction that also contains elements of Mr. Ray within it? I think you’ve got a solid starting point here, but maybe would’ve leaned more into replacing the current Nemo attraction with your Mr. Ray focused one, and really use that scavenger hunt to focus on learning about the oceans. Love the idea of an interactive dark ride.

Bonus (+1) – Animated film covered here, but doesn’t really tie into your attraction, but I can see the Chicken Little/Marlin connection.

LITTLE NEMO'S SLUMBERING SEAS

Set sail into the dreams of Little Nemo, boarding adorable yellow submarines that house six people. In an animated short, Little Nemo's troublesome friend Flip loses a lucky coin to a kleptomaniac octopus, leading to a frantic chase through the sea.

Just when you think it’s another Nemo and friends’ attraction from the title, it’s not. Love the little twist using this IP, one I get to learn about, to tie into our challenge. Based on the ride and vehicles, I assume this is a simple dark ride in the vein of Disney’s classic Fantasyland style attractions, and it is a solid choice. A bit of adventure, a bit of beauty, a bit of frivolity with the bubble factory and the inclusion of a bit of evil/dark subject matter that stays true to the classic Disney attractions, and I wish they wouldn’t shy away from. Short and sweet explanation, but sounds like an enjoyable, little ride.

Bonus (+1) – A kleptomaniac octopus you say?

Atlantis Submarine Exploration
View attachment 821097

At Shanghai Kong Disneyland’s Adventure Isle (near Storyhouse Stage next to Pirates Cove), guests will be able to join Milo Thatch and his Atlantaen wife Kida in a (yellow) submarine exploration of the lost city of Atlantis. Using similar technology to the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea at Tokyo DisneySea (e.g. monorails on tracks with water/bubbles in window panes to give a submersion effect), guests will encounter the futuristic technology of the Atlanteans as well as a scary face-to-face with a leviathan.

Bonus–Atlantis: The Creatures of the Lost City
View attachment 821098

In this 3rd title of the Atlantis series, Milo and Kida, their children, and others like Gaetan Moliere journey out in a submarine to research the unique creatures (including some not-so-friendly ones) of Atlantis.

Some Disney’s Atlantis love is good to see. The first film has grown on me over the years, the second not so much, and I’ve tinkered myself with an occasional Atlantis inspired attractions in the larger comps. Piggybacking off 20k Leagues for this attraction but tailoring it for Atlantis and Shanghai (or is somewhere between Shanghai and Hong Kong? 😊).

Bonus (+1) – A 3rd Atlantis film? I could be for it, as long as its not straight to video quality.

The Imagination Encounter experience
View attachment 821198
Replacing the Pixar Short movie theater in the Imagination Pavilion in Epcot, Disney created a new theater show featuring a combination of live actors, animatronics, and special effects. The plot follows an Imagination Institute presentation of an alien artifact discovered deep in the ocean by a yellow submarine that conjures up things you can imagine. The show goes off the rails when the presenter (terrified of public speaking) conjures up increasingly funny and disastrous things only to be saved by Dreamfinder who helps them imagine their way out of the predicament.
Disney finally settled on a script and movie for their Dreamfinder and Figment characters.

I am all for diversions that aren’t rides in the parks, but the reliance on playing films in so many spaces with Disney always grinds me a bit so it was nice to see this theater repurposed and you to go a different angle with a show instead of a ride. A submarine fits fine with the wackiness of Figment and Dreamfinder as evidenced by our own prompt at The Beatles. Great to see a mix of actors and animatronics in this space, and imagine this would be an uber popular show in the park.

Bonus (+1) – Who doesn’t want to see a Figment and Dreamfinder film?

This looks really fun so I thought I'd throw my hat into the ring! :)

Seabase Escape!
View attachment 821197

Acting as a new addition to the original defunct version of Seabase Alpha in EPCOT Center, Seabase Escape! is a thrilling rollercoaster/dark ride hybrid across the ocean floor. After boarding enclosed yellow sub pods to visit an undersea wildlife hotspot, unexpected geothermal activity sends riders on a thrilling expedition through the wonders of the Living Seas.

Welcome to the competition! Love the idea of a sea-based (see what I did there) coaster in EPCOT. Would make for a great balance to the park with Guardians on the other side of Future World, yes I still call it that. You’d obviously need to build an expansion to the existing pavilion, but there is space. You still had another sentence, so I’d love to hear more about any scenes, layout or queue, but for a short elevator pitch, you’ve got me hooked!

Back to Disneyland Paris! Very cool to see almost all of the Disney parks utilized this round in some fashion. Expanding on the park’s walkthrough makes perfect sense to easily tie into the surroundings. It would probably take some logistics work, but I think there probably is a way space wise to expand onto the existing walkthrough and fit this in outside of the park’s current footprint. As a water coaster, is this entirely enclosed, outdoors, etc.? Would like to get just a bit more info on that aspect of the ride, but otherwise a cool idea.

Bonus (+1) – Love the idea of an animated version of 20K leagues. Spot on.

This attraction canonically occurs between Inside Out 2 and 3 (developing a friendship for Anxiety and the other emotions after past film pitted them as rivals), however, Inside Out 3 will feature the Subliminarine in a minor cameo role.

A large scale Inside Out attraction is due at some point in a Disney park beyond Emotional Whirlwind right? Picturing Riley’s many emotions on a yellow submarine already has me smiling already. I do wonder about the logistics with World of Color in that space. Does that go away? While the subs themselves from Nemo are maybe not the most ideal operations wise, repurposing these from makes a ton of business sense. Subliminarine is a fantastic name as well!

Bonus (+1) – We know Inside Out 3 is happening at some point, but love the tie-in, even if only a cameo of the sub.

The southern sun is rising on a land of burning deserts and breathing waters, as EPCOT invites you to experience Australia in The Wonders of Down Under, a fourteen-minute panoramic showcase of a nation’s peoples, frontiers, and spirit. An addition to World Showcase? Nice. My folks are in Sydney as we speak so I immediately connect to this. A panoramic showcase is in perfect keeping with some of the best of EPCOT, and probably not actually out of the realm of possibility with them actually doing work on some films in recent years. The film sounds it would definitely put you right in the action so I imagine some pretty cool shots. You got the sub in there in a small way, but that was all that was technically required. If Australia was coming to Walt Disney World, part of me would probably rather see it end up at Animal Kingdom, but hard to complain a World Showcase add.

Similar in ways to Outbound’s Subliminarine, but unique enough to stand on its own. I’m not sure any of us will be alive to ever see Journey Into Imagination formally redone, but like Rock Wren, really like how the sub fits with the characters from the pavilion. A suspended dark ride is absolutely perfect for both the vehicle and the journey. Plenty of great description here and visually I think this would be really, really nice. A bit of variety depending on which sub you get is also a very cool idea. Everything about this is really spot on hitting all the right notes.

Bonus (+1) – Donald under water and dealing with imagination. Enough said.

So I thought I put a reasoning in the text but I apparently did not so here it is.

We are basically going through many habitats that are part of a wildlife reserve on the planet Batuu, the enclosures are meant to replicate the animals natural environment. That is how all those animals from different planets get there.

I like Figment, don't love him, but this pitch accomplished many things in 3 sentences utilizing the sub in a great way for both the character and experience itself. Great job!

Thank you again to everyone for their own take on a Yellow Submarine! A good variety and a number of fun twists. Standings (just for fun) will be updated on the opening post and Track/Challenge 2 will be coming your way tomorrow AM.

Track 2
I Want to Hold Your Ha
nd

While maybe not one of The Beatles most iconic songs, I Want to Hold Your Hand was insanely popular. Released in 1963 it of course reached No. 1 in the UK and the US, hence it's inclusion on the album 1 and in this season of The One Sentence Competition. A catchy beat, and harkening back to a much different time period when it came to romance.

Tunnel of Love.jpg

The theme park world is not immune to love either, in many forms. From the iconic Tunnel of Love attraction that could be found at various amusement parks around the world to the modern-day theme park ride based on Fantasy and tales of old. Love is an age-old story, it just gets told differently over time, but at its heart, the same idea.

- Challenge -
Your challenge this round is to create a new theme park attraction at any non-Disney theme park that tells a love story. What kind of story, as well as the type of attraction, and how much you factor in the love angle is completely up to you. Is love best told via coaster or dark ride? It's your call! Heartwarming, swashbuckling, chivalrous, sci fi romance, a simple rescue and kiss at the end; do your best to convey some sense of love as part of the attractions' overall story.

- Rules -

  • Your attraction can be placed at any non-Disney theme park around the world
  • You may use between 1 to 3 sentences and up to 1 image.
  • No AI generated artwork, writing, or assistance in the brainstorming process is allowed

- Deadline -
This project is due on Friday, October 25th at 11:59 PM Disneyland Time
(October 26th 2:59 AM WDW Time)

- Tips -
K.I.S.S. – Keep it simple, silly. Try not to complicate or overthink things too much. It’s a simple, casual competition – there are no eliminations. Propose as you please, let your imagination soar!

-Judging Criteria-
Is it creative?
Is it (generally) realistic?
Does it fit thematically/visually?

BONUS: Draw a simple sketch of your attraction vehicle to give us a sense better sense of the overall attraction.
You can use up to one extra sentence to describe the vehicle along with your image.
This bonus results in automatic bonus point

Hershey's Great Big Kiss at Hersheypark

Hersheypark has constructed a gigantic Hershey Kiss the size of a building, containing within it the story of love, loss, and healing centered on Chip (a shy Hershey Kiss) and Miss Twizzle (a, um, Twizzler). The ride system is an innovative omnimover (in a Reese's Cup) which twists around the different levels of the giant Kiss structure before reaching the top, when each ride vehicle enters into a drop tower down the central portion of the structure (for the climax). This is an attraction for the entire family, so the wonderful plot (which I mercifully do not have to write here) will draw in the younger riders, while the thrilling-but-not-scary drop will bring joy to all ages!

Coming to Six Flags Fiesta Texas (as a replacement for their rapids ride), this ride is a B&M Wing Coaster themed to the romantic moments between the Joker and Harley Quinn. The story goes that the Joker is trying to impress Harley, but he ends up trying and failing in Joker fashion (though he does end up getting at kiss out of her at the end of the ride). "Monsters and My One True Love"
Guests to Six Flags St. Louis will enter the Harmony Bed and Breakfast for “Monsters and My One True Love” (which is inspired by the book of the same name written by Dian Curtis Regan) indoor boat ride. Rilla is the teenage girl at the center of the story, who is trying to mitigate destruction from cute monster stuffed animals (with inspiration from Monster Mansion at Six Flags Over Georgia) that have come alive while also dealing with B&B guests, a family wedding, a visit from a dad she has never met, and a potential kiss from a boy with whom she has been friends since a young child. Guests will be able to bring the monsters to life with the laser guns in their boats–borrowing effects from Monsters Inc. Ride & Go Seek at Tokyo Disneyland and The Flooded Mine at Silver Dollar City.

Bonus: Boats are arranged in 3 rows of 2 with laser guns located near each seat.

Shrek's Swamp Splashdown

This brand new addition to Universal Studios Hollywood adapts what is perhaps the greatest love story ever told - the story of an ogre who won the heart of a princess. Guests jump aboard swampwater-stained logs and sail the turbulent waters of Shrek's swamp, face off against Lord Farquaad, encounter various Disney fairy tale characters, and brave the Dragon's Keep to rescue Princess Fiona before plunging out the highest room of the tallest tower (you may get wet!) and discover the secret that Fiona is hiding. The attraction ends with a dance party/wedding reception in Shrek's swamp, with Donkey singing "I'm a Believer", before guests exit out into a gift shop, Ogre Outfitters.

A Tale of Two Lovers

Opening up at Universal Studios Florida is a film based on the iconic 1997 film Titanic, this ride will focus less on the actual disaster to avoid any problems but more on the love between Jack and Rose (even tho I don't like the 2 together). Guests will first enter into a Titanic museum that showcases many artifacts from both the movie and the actual sunken ship, a small play area is also in the queue as it showcases how much the deck tilted at different parts of the sinking before they enter into their boats. Guests first go through the waterways of London as the 2 lovebirds enter the ship, how Rose and Jack met, the dinner between the 2, the many events during the sinking where guests will go through the flooded hallways, Jack dying, and Rose reuniting with Jack.
