Free Day!

Guess what?! For one day at the Magic Kingdom, Disney is making all the merchandise you can buy FREE - as in, it doesn't cost anything! To celebrate, a new show will be put on at Cinderella Castle, during which the Three Little Pigs fly through the air and Chernabog shows up to tell everyone that his domain has frozen over!

Figment has escaped to the Magic Kingdom and has made all of the rides (YES, EVERY SINGLE ONE) run backwards! This is your chance to see the Magic Kingdom like you've never seen it before—in REVERSE! For the attractions where it's possible to actually run the mechanism backwards, you'll be able to see the ride scenes in reverse; for other attractions, they simply turn the vehicles backwards.

Faith Day
1730481704253.png

Silver Dollar City highlights how the Eighth Day takes on special meaning around Passover in the year 30 AD–it’s Faith Day at the park! Throughout the day at the Wilderness Church, praise-and-worship services are offered and after each, there is a special parade (or “procession”) around the park to continue the festivities. The rides are renamed and re-themed (mostly in the queues but also in changing out scenes of Fire in the Hole, Time Traveller, and The Flooded Mine to be more cheerful) and great feasting, especially in roasted lamb, broiled fish, and chocolate cakes, is found to celebrate this world-changing day.

Located in Universal Studios Japan, Pokemon Day invites guests to a fun adventure that stretches across the whole park, adopting the Pokemon Go app to explore and catch all 1025 colourful critters, as well as participate in other activities like exciting battles, M&Gs, and character parades, whilst a temporary Pokemon Center opens to offer the wild, weird, and wonderful side of the franchise's merchandise.

Track 3
8 Days a Week

Back to The Beatles 1 Album and 8 Days a Week, released in December 1964, is a fitting title for any of us that have the daily grind at work. Though I'm sure many of you in school feel that way as well. For the song though, the lyrics were more about having more time with their love, something we've already tackled, rather than working your x@# off that was actually more of the inspiration of the title.
View attachment 822851
If you had 8 days in a week, what would you do? Anything different? How would you use that extra day if you didn't have to work. A curious question for our favorite theme parks around the world as well. What would they do with an 8th day?

While I am not a huge fan of the party offerings at many of the major theme parks that shut down the parks early for guests to pay extra, I do see the merit in their own way. What if the parks had an 8th day they could do anything with when there was no normal park operations to interfere with daily guests?

- Challenge -
Your challenge this track is to create an all-day event at any theme park of your choice on a presumably 8th day of the week. Be it holiday offering, themed IP event, or something completely random, what kind of all-day fun can you create for "party" guests at your park when you don't have normal operations to worry about? This is your chance for an open to close party or celebration that is as laid back or jam packed as your heart's desire giving guests plenty of time to experience everything you have to offer.

- Rules -

  • Your 8th day party can be placed at any theme park around the world
  • You may use between 1 to 3 sentences and up to 1 image.
  • No AI generated artwork, writing, or assistance in the brainstorming process is allowed

- Deadline -
This project is due on Friday, November 1st at 11:59 PM Disneyland Time
(Saturday the 2nd 2:59 AM WDW Time)

- Tips -
K.I.S.S. – Keep it simple, silly. Try not to complicate or overthink things too much. It’s a simple, casual competition – there are no eliminations. Propose as you please, let your imagination soar!

-Judging Criteria-
Is it creative?
Is it (generally) realistic?
Does it fit thematically/visually?

DISNEY PRESENTS: A NIGHT IN MAGIC KINGDOM

1730530888455.png

The House of Mouse is about to take advantage of this 8th-day opportunity for a wickedly upcharged event - Disney's A Night in Magic Kingdom, a special half-day overlay to the entirety of Magic Kingdom, themed to you guessed it- the Villians! Before the totally reasonable 11 am to 11 pm times (or, on special occasions, an 11 pm to 11 am all-nighter) for the experience, cast members are hard at work making a simple transformation to the park, with decorations to all 6 lands and overlays to 11 rides, letting the big baddies take it over whether it's Clayton now helming the Jungle Horror Cruise (with costumed actors mixing with of animatronics), or the Ghost of the Galaxy tearing through Space Mountain. As it's also a costume party for all visitors, the spooky yet delightful fun of these Nights combined with exclusive food, merchandise, and character appearances will spark a hype train running for the upcoming Villians Land in the Park.

Dollywood.

I'd use 9-5 as the theme. Upcharge. The park would have random musical interactions throughout the day playing various tunes. Dolly, herself would perform for the closing ceremony of the event.

View attachment 822875

Short. Sweet. To the point. I’m not a Dolly Parton stan by any means, but this is a super fun way to tie into the park’s namesake. The film predates most on this forum, but it was an uber poplar one, and with the title song elevated Dolly even further in mainstream. It was second in box office to a little film called Empire Strikes Back when it opened! How the film would fit into the park theming I don’t know, but the title is a genius tie in, and with the musical accompaniment and Dolly performing, literally all you would need for a successful 8th day.

(pretend that’s the MrBeast logo or something)

Coming never to North Carolina's Carowinds is a 1 day festival centered around the state's most popular (and controversial) YouTuber, MrBeast. MrBeast themed decorations (including a 3d mascot and pictures of the greedy man himself, as well as replicas of his play buttons) and memorabilia will appear throughout the park, and the park's most popular coasters will get rethemed for this not-so special occasion (with Fury 325 becoming the Fury Jimmy and Thunder Striker becoming the Lunchly Striker, for instance). Guests will also be able to get MrBeast themed foods, including cookies, Squid Game foods, MrBeast Burger, and even Lunchly (no mold), so you too (yes, you) can get your “electrolytes” and your cheese drippy bruh.

(and yes if anyone asks this is a joke pitch, I know what he (and some of his employees) did is absolutely unacceptable (there are no ties to said employees) and I didn't have many ideas)

Not that it was a huge deal, but I was surprised to learn that Beast lived in NC with me last year. Don’t know where I thought he’d be, but NC was not it. This is one of those ideas I would say never gonna happen, but in the same breath, well maybe they’d do it (regardless if this was a joke pitch or not)? Obviously, he’s had his own issues recently which you accurately noted, but a youtuber themed park day would not be out of the realm of possibility for a regional theme park I suppose. Throw in a few video set ups around the park as well content and you’ve got a social media filled park day.

Comedic route achieved. You could have literally stopped at the free Disney merchandise. Ha. We’ll definitely file this one under the route of never gonna happen, not even possible, but it is funny to picture the three little pigs using Tink’s zip line to fly over the hub.

Every. Single. Ride. BACKWARDS. This is so ridiculous, but so fun at the same time. I can only imagine Disney maintenance trying to pull this off, but certainly fun to think of. Absolutely, this is an 8th day kind of party since you’d need the full day to set/rest everything. I can totally see this working on attractions like COP, the Peoplemover, Pooh, etc. Question. If you ride Jungle Cruise backwards, is it still the backside of water?

Day of Marvel at Universal? Oh the shade. Could they do it? I don’t know, but interesting to ponder. Picturing a full day ala Knotts as opposed to the snippets we get at Disneyland. This might actually work better with the comic nature of Universal’s Marvel IP.

I would not care in the slightest if you were fixated on Silver Dollar City. Love to see other parks get some love on the forums. Love how you used personal experience to influence your theme. I could see this fitting the SDC’s park well as an 8th day option. Nothing too over the top, and basic enough to appeal to a target audience. Would be really curious to see the changes to Fire in the Hole and Time Traveler in particular!

Really unsure why this hasn’t been a thing in a park. Is it not really a thing? Have to believe it’s bound to happen though right? Once there’s a Pokemon land in a Universal park there’s really no excuse. Even now, I can see the appeal and crossover of using the themed areas for Pokemon adventures, etc. The temporary Pokemon Center makes for a perfect pop up hub for the day’s activities.

Speaking of bound to happen. While I don’t see Epic Universe using the entire park for a Nintendo event anytime soon with crowds swooping in to see the new space, as far as 8th day scenarios, why not. There’s bound to be plenty of Nintendo characters to filter into the other portals of EU that would fit right in. Could make for a great themed day even throughout the park.

Taking full advantage of a land that isn’t built yet (they better open the freakin thing AND do it right) and an 8th day. Nice! As much as I lament the early park closures of holiday parties, I cannot argue with the theming Disney does such a nice job with on Main Street USA. My biggest qualm though is why is this not throughout the park and villains is a prime way to do this. They’ve actually done solid with layovers in various forms for Junge, Pirates, Space and the Teacups. As much as Disney fans love to pipedream about a Villains land, can only image the for a Villains overlay of the entire park!

- PLATINUM RECORD -

@ThemeParkPriest Another solid regional park choice and something I could easily imagine filtering into an 8th day event.

@Disgruntled Walt While your idea definitely achieved in the wacky area, I thought you made tremendous use out of the theoretical 8th day of the week with something that could likely only happen with a full day to set it all up.

Congrats to all of this Tracks' placements and entries. Fun stuff!

Track 4
"E" Ticket to Ride

Released in 1965, Ticket to Ride was The Beatles' first song to last long than 3 minutes. There are several possible interpretations out there for the song title and lyrics, either way, another solid tune. As with all of our tracks on this season of the One Sentence Competition, a number 1 hit and of course inclusion on The Beatles 1 album.

1730662648601.png

Needing a ticket to ride had many connotations in 1965, and it was no different at Walt's first park Disneyland. Ticket books for attractions, while they aren't in use today, still inspire fan discussions (on this forum in particular) when categorizing any new attraction created at Disney parks. Who knows, maybe we aren't too far off from this happening again. Our challenge this week takes us back to 1965 and that same Disneyland Park, coinciding with the release year of Ticket to Ride.

-Challenge-
Create a new Disney E-Ticket attraction for Disneyland circa 1965. The attraction choice is entirely up to you, keeping in mind technology, the park as it was, what constituted an E-Ticket and park goer preferences at the time.

-Rules-

  • Any Disney IP in use at the time is fair game, along with any other generally available topics, ideas, works, etc. that were in the public domain
  • You may use between 1 to 3 sentences and up to 1 image.
  • No AI generated artwork, writing, or assistance in the brainstorming process is allowed

-Deadline-
This project is due on Friday, November 8th at 11:59 PM Disneyland Time

After plans for a darkride themed to a mansion with 1,000 happy haunts fell by the wayside in the mid-1960s (and eventually realized in Walt's Florida park), Walt and his team of imagineers began to work on a different ride with the new “omnimover” technology. This ride would be themed to the titular segment of Fantasia (though also taking elements from Night on Bald Mountain), and it would be located near It's A Small World (where part of Toontown is in our world, with this section later becoming a “Dark Fantasyland”). After guests enter through a facade inspired by Bald Mountain, guests experience a story inspired by the titular segment, where Mickey discovers a magical sorcerer's hat, and with the help of Yen Sid, gains magical powers. During the ride, there is a climactic scene with impressive sets and Audio-Animatronics where Mickey uses the hat's powers to defeat the evil Chernabog.

GLOBAL VOYAGE:

Opening in Tomorrowland on June 16, 1965, Global Voyage is a dark ride in the vein of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride in which guests board mystical chariots and go on a rapid and surreal journey across all 7 continents, encountering dramatic scenes, serving as a more mature counterpart to It's A Small World.

Guests load in an outdoor area and start by going through a cold North American winter, where a blizzard takes place, before floating down the Amazon River of South America, where they encounter a school of carnivorous, sharp toothed piranhas that pursue guests, who then go into Antarctica, where they feel extremely cold temperatures in the frozen desert.

Guests then enter Europe, where they go down an Italian street by the Mediterranean Sea with tantalizing foods on display in restaurants run by living Roman statues before heading to Africa, where guests enter the tomb of King Tutankhamun and see his ancient golden sarcophagus and death mask alongside his clothing, including his sandals, socks, and undergarments as the spirits of Tutankhamun and his servants dance wildly with choreography inspired by Ancient Egyptian artwork.

The next continent is Australia where a group of kangaroos kick-box near guests before they finally reach Asia, where they scale Mount Everest and encounter the Yeti on a dark and stormy night followed by a sunrise viewed from the peak of Everest before ascending to Heaven, where angels sing and play harps, followed by an abrupt ending to this surreal trip around the world.
