Alright, for movies you always double the production budget to determine the actual cost. That 150 doesn't iinclude marketing or any other expenses. So the rule of thumb is that a movie needs to make back twice it's budget to break even. So Bolt made some profit, but a very small amount. That's why Ghistbuster 2016 is considered a flop, it made back it's budget, but not the double budget rule of thumb.

Like any rule of thumb, this isn't always accurate. Some movies spend next to nothing on marketing. Others spend so much, like Batman v Superman which made over 900 mill and still is considered to be only marginally successful if that box office wise.

All that being said, I think Moana will be pretty big. I don't think it will be another billion, but 600-800 mill is not unreasonable at all. It has great buzz. The Rock is a big star. The music is by the guy who made Hamilton (which is still huge a year later). Diversity is big right now and this has a non-white female lead. I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a hit.

I do.

A 114 million dollar profit for a disney animated movie released in theaters is a Flop in my opinion. Here's a list of disney movies by profit margin http://www.boxofficemojo.com/studio/chart/?studio=buenavista.htm&debug=0&view=parent&p=.htm (bolt ranks #86 btw) Keep in mind that a lot of these totals are for really old movies and have not been adjusted for inflation. Here's an inflation calculator if you are curious http://www.westegg.com/inflation/ Finding Nemo #13 is an interesting one to calculate.

Should've been put into the first post ! :)

By the way.. The worldwide total profit was $309,979,994..? It cost like 105 million to make? (plus marketing blabla) It was #2 in the box office on its second weekend? Just not what I would consider a flop..... Just.. Meh.

Meh is the perfect way to put it. it made backs the "double budget" rule of thumb, but not by much. It was meh.

Which is a shame, because I really enjoyed it. And if it did better, I could be seen it fitting in very well at the studios. Who knows, if a major, popular Disney movie was about movie making (well, tv show making), maybe the studios theme would have stuck and we wouldn't be looking at a major over haul and make change now

Truth! I thought some sort of interactive Saving Mr. Banks attraction would have been a nice addition to the Studio's original theme in today's modern day. Because that kind of attraction could be styled to represent the old ways of movie making... Perhaps today, Hollywood Studios, if they were to keep the studio theme, would work if it was more of a nostalgic movie making theme as opposed to trying to keep up with today's technology in film making which advances so fast.
