I've watched it many times and it was such a beautiful moment to see all of the characters come together. Hearing some of my all-time favorite characters voiced by Paige O’Hara (Belle), Robby Benson (Beast), Tom Hulce (Quasimodo), Judy Kuhn (Pocahontas), Jodi Benson (Ariel), Jim Cummings (Baloo, Winnie the Pooh), and Lea Salonga (Mulan) sing “When You Wish Upon a Star” was simply lovely to listen to. Paige needs to return as Belle full-time, especially after proving that she also still has a lovely singing voice.

Oh Inget it… they were not great movies…zI would not have nominated them Myself if I was a voter
I think Disney kept them from being nominated to avoid more backlash. Wish and Elemental will be nominated if Wish is before the cutoff. The Academy will probably go with Wish.

When I saw this, I at first thought the ending was reminiscent of the ending of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", which, as you know, ends with the whole crowd of Toons (Disney and non-Disney alike) learning that they are now the new owners of Toontown and all singing, as one, "Smile, Darn Ya, Smile". However, I had a rethink and thought it wasn't the best comparison. I thought, for sheer emotion from a big crowd singing a rousing emotional song, a more apt comparison would have to be the finale of "The Muppet Movie", which ends with not just Kermit's crew, but almost every single Muppet in existence (even those from "Sesame Street") all singing "Rainbow Connection". It even ends with the camera showing a closeup of one character and then pulling away to reveal the gigantic crowd as they all sing. Watch:

I also drew comparisons from two other things. The first was from an episode of the old Disney anthology series called "This Is Your Life, Donald Duck", which ends with a whole crowd of Disney characters, at host Jiminy Cricket's behest, parading out onto the stage to pay tribute to Donald while singing "Quack Quack Quack Donald Duck" (which originated from another anthology episode called "A Day In the Life of Donald Duck"):

The second was this one ad for Eastern Airlines, which was one of the original sponsors of Walt Disney World in its early days, going so far as to sponsor an old attraction called "If You Had Wings" (where the Buzz Lightyear ride stands today). This ad apparently came out around the same time as "Robin Hood", since he and Little John are clearly spotted in the big crowd of Disney characters accompanying a generic family on a flight (via Eastern, of course) to WDW:

Saw quite a few bits of this on Youtube.

SPOILERS AHEAD.

Pretty clever overall. Had a nice moment with Mickey gazing wistfully at a picture of Walt while "Feed the Birds" music played in the background. It'd have been more poignant if the idiots running Walt's studio now didn't feel the need to remake and change practically everything Walt ever made because of modern "sensibilities".

Lo and behold, Oswald makes an appearance. And at the end, all of the characters sing "When You Wish Upon A Star", including Jiminy Cricket with Cliff Edward's voice. (And I think that the Genie has Robin William's voice, and Peter Pan has Bobby Driscoll's).

No Brer Rabbit, of course. On the other hand, no Star Wars, Marvel, or Muppets. Bonus!

It does remind you of what Disney USED to be. And sadly, what it will never be again. The Kingdom has fallen.

That's the most ridiculous theory I've ever heard. After the embarrassing box office failures of both movies, I would imagine the Disney company would at least want to take home some Oscar gold to prove it was somewhat worthwhile.

But the fact is that both Lightyear and Strange World were mediocre films that didn't get critical adoration. There is no way they could have competed with the actual nominees, which included heavy hitters like Del Toro's Pinocchio and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

Looking at the box office for Wish, Disney is going to bury that one too. No Oscar nom for that one.

Disney will almost certainly submit the movie for Oscar nominations, but I doubt it will get one for animated feature. MAYBE one of the songs will be nominated.

I think the Best Animated Feature nominees will almost certainly include Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse and The Boy and the Heron. Nimona and Elemental are likely nominees. The fifth slot is a wildcard. Wish would honor Disney's legacy, but TMNT was much better received by critics and Super Mario Bros. was a global success (although critics didn't like Mario). And it remains to be seen how critics respond to the new Chicken Run movie.

I totally agree. I think "this Wish" will be nominated for best song but it won't be in Best Animated Movie. Elemental will be nominated but I think it will go to Spiderman. I did like TMNT better though.

Once Upon a Studio may still have theatrical debut alongside Wish, at least at one country. In Japan, the Japanese dubbed version of the short will be debut on December 15 theatrically alongside Wish.

The nominees will be:

The Boy and the Heron
Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget
Elemental
Nimona
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

If Wish is nominated instead of one of the above, it'll be outrageous.
