From your experiences do you think it is cheaper to stay off site or on? Ive only ever stayed on and have loved the themes and the disney transportation.

If we stay off site we cant rent a car i dont think (we will be 22 and 20), do offsite hotels offer transportation to parks?

If a car rental is not possible by all means stay on site. Shuttles from off property resorts are horrible at best. Most run at intervals of an hour or greater, some have multiple stops, some will only take you to the TTC and then require you to take Disney transportation from there, etc, etc. All of that adds up to it taking you an incredibly long time to go anywhere.

Also not a simple answer.
Most people here prefer on site due to the theming and immersion in the total Disney environment.
Depending on the time of year, you can get discounts on value resorts to about $65/night, moderates around $100/night.

You can get cheaper off property, especially if you have a large group renting a house or suite. Then you do have to factor in cost of daily parking and time for drive in and out. Staying off property can also save in food cost and laundry.

Edit: Also staying off site, you will not have access to Extra Magic Hours if that is of interest to you.

Thanks Master Yoda! Defintally will be looking at onsite then, probally pop century.. I wasnt sure how off site worked in relation to transportation to parks, but it looks like by staying onsite would give us much more time in the parks!

Scroll down, you will see a number of posts here on this subject. Also check AllEars and Mousesavers, they may give a breakdown.

To answer your question FWIW: Lots of variables-time of year, length of stay, type of room requirements, etc. Plus it depends on you and the type of trip you want. If you want all Disney all the time, need airport transfer and park transportation, stay on at a value. If you want a break from everything, plan on other things than WDW, maybe get a little more for your money (free internet, breakfast) off-property would work.

The car rental is a problem, as personally I would not stay off without a car. Never used hotel or community shuttles but my understanding is that they are very limited, just morning, late afternoon and evening, nothing real late if you planned on doing dinner or DTD. (Check National, Thrifty for rentals at 21+, though it may cost more. Car is just more convenient than airport transfer and shuttles. Even when on property, I still drive; faster/easier than bus to parks, other resorts.)

That said maybe look at the DTD hotels, Marriott Village or other LBV places. If the rate is enough of a savings vs. the value resort to off-set cost of the shuttle (some are free, some charge) it may work for you. The really cheap places are in Kissimmee (192) area; some may have free shuttles, but they tend to be older, lower quality. If you don't want to risk it, then look for the low season deals at a Value Resort.

Travelling from an off site hotel or villa CAN be quicker thean taking taking Disneys transport to the parks. For example, a lot of places on 192 are nearer to AK, DTD, EPCOT and DHS than the MK resorts in WDW !!

From what I have found, using various types of discounts(entertainment book, AAA, etc) or sites(Priceline, Hotwire) it can be substantially cheaper to stay off site.

Part 2 of your question is really based on the hotel/Resort. Many do, many don't.

And I would verify that you "can't" rent a car. It may be that you can, but they attach a fee to it.
