On Property Transportation

My wife and I are bringing our family of 5 with 3 kids to Disney for the first time this summer. We are staying at Port Orleans, French Quarter. I'm wondering specifically about travel times from the resort to each different park--Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios--if we are wanting to make it for rope drop? How long does the bus ride take? What time should we try to catch the bus? Wait times once we get there for security with 3 kids and a stroller? We will be on property Wed, July 11-July 16. My brother loves this site and highly recommended its use. Thanks everybody.

Did you look into the rooms at Alligator Bayou in Riverside that sleep 5 (2 queens and the pull down Murphy)? We requested a room there close to the West Depot, which was the first bus stop for the theme parks for Riverside. Always had an empty bus and a place to sit :) The bus ride to MK takes about 15 minutes, Epcot and HS about 10 minutes, and AK about 25 minutes all depending on traffic conditions. I always like getting somewhere early so if the park opens at 8am then I'm at the bus stop by 7am. When AK opened for EMH at 7am, we were at the bus stop no later than 6am. The lines through security are a lot less the earlier you go in the morning or later in the afternoon. The waits can be really unpredictable and dependent on the park. I've had a security wait as short as 2 minutes and one as long as 20. The bus to HS took a while because of the construction at the entry. We got there quickly but just had a long wait on the bus. I've always had the worst luck with Epcot buses in the morning at the resort. Typically I've had to wait no more than 20 minutes for a bus except for that darn Epcot bus will keep us waiting 40 minutes no matter what resort I stay at. Finally figured it was just my luck :)

Leigh's estimates of transportation times to each of the parks are good, but of course, depends on traffic conditions. Buses run, on average, every 20 min to each if the parks. They are dispached by a central office, and extra buses maybe added if necessary, especially at times of highest demand. We always try to be at the bus stop at least an hour before RD. Be sure to have your stroller folded and ready to board when the bus arrives.

How long the lines will be at the park entrance are highly variable, but if you can arrive more than 30 min before RD, you'll be near the head of the pack. You will have to go through security before you can get in line for the entry tapstiles. Be sure to have all of your bags open and ready for examination. We always aim for an early arrival like this, since you can easily knock off several rides before the lines build, except on the busiest days of the year.

All accurate except for " busses dispatched from a central office " each hub has its own dispatch, on occasion the dispatcher can be physically seated at the Ops. Center, but more often then not they are dispatched at the hub. And during the day they use the NORAD system which is an automated dispatch. No big deal you did a good job, just me being accurate. 😊
