On Line Check In

Is anyone else having problems with the on line check in service? I have tried at various times throughout the day both yesterday and today. We leave in 8 days! I know I have time but I was looking forward to checking in as that makes it seem real! I am getting a message that says the system is not available.

I don't know of any problems...but I wouldn't use it. YOu'll get there and be handed a packet and sent on your way. I prefer to talk to a person, see where the room is located (view, building, preferred? etc) and have the option to change the room assignment.

Just a thought.

You can change the room assignment on a on line check in but you will have to go through the regular check in line to do so.

I think you're experience is in the minority but I have always seen the online check-in people still go over the packet and show you the map like stand-by checking. And in my experiences online check-in has always taken me LONGER than regular check-in.

I went back to using stand-by check-in...i won't go back to online.

It seems to be getting a bit more streamlined now. It is intended to make it to where you can grab and go but when it was first implemented the CM's still seemed to want to go through the regular check in spiel when they handed you the package. From my experience it has taken me lees time to check in every time I have used it. My last check in was almost like a baton exchange in a track meet which is exactly what I wanted.

That being said on-line check in is not for everyone. If you are not familiar with all of the items in your packet or only travel to WDW every couple of years do not use it.

Thanks for the responses. I have been debating using it. I guess this is a sign. I did use it last year and I was able to change the room in the on line check in line. The girl that was helping me was not happy about it. I had requested the Mansion section of POR and they gave us a room in the Bayou section. They ended up upgrading to a water view room in the Mansion section at no additional charge. We are arriving in the evening so it should not be too busy at the check in area. I have waited over an hour in the past. Just trying to avoid the long line.

Maybe i'll give it another go sometime then...except I can't use it at CBR because they always put us in Trinidad South and we ALWAYS have to request a transfer. I always wondered why they asked for my credit card again when I had already paid in full online and did not want to use my card for charging. It should be a "let me see your ID, ok, matches the name on the reservation and you look like the dude in the picture...do you need a parking pass? Ok thanks for visiting"

Though I have never gotten that experience....

We have been going every year for the past 15 years (sometimes twice a year). We always stay at POR. I wish I could figure out the trick to getting the section that I want. I know that there are no guarantees when you request a certain section. In my case, I do request Magnolia Terrace. Most of the time, we are not put in this section. We normally do get the mansion section but most times it is facing the parking lot. I know if I upgrade to water view, I have a better chance of getting the front section however, I could also get a room facing a swimming pool. Check in sometimes stresses me out. My husband and daughter go to Fulton's until this proces is over with. I guess I should just be happy that I am there and not worry about the room. There is something about walking out of the room in the morning and seeing the Gazebo and the river.

Getting the water view will be your key. There are more rooms with a view of the river and fountains than the pools so chances are you will not be next to the pool. You can also get a water view and request not to be next to the pool. Another thing is that you will want to make the request when you book and not when you check in.
