Old TV's back at COP

Yep, I noticed today. They're back, and one of them wasn't even turned on.

And to top it all off, when I rode, the theater refused to rotate out of the first scene. I bailed when it started playing for the third time. They REALLY need to refurb this.

*sigh*

I believe one of the plasma screens on the left was enclosed in a silver box. . . but from what I hear, it's the same plasma screen.

The Carousel of Progress needs a good year long rehab (no, not time to gather dust). Give it (Disneyland's) Tiki Room treatment. New Animatronics. (Come on, Disney - you did it to the American Adventure cast in the early 90s!)

And while we're at it, Splash Mountain and Haunted Mansion...

I was there tonight too. Too bad it's in such bad shape...there were a ton of people waiting for it. I didn't dare go in. There's something about being stuck in a rotating theater with a bunch of tourists that have been out in the sun all day and most likely are cranky. People behaving very badly tonight.

it was an odd group today...very cranky

Plasmas were taken down a few weeks ago (at least the first one) they put up one old box tv (the one working) the other was just put up this week and isnt working yet.

Please dont leave the theatre till you are evacuated. When guests leave it automatically e stops the atraction which then wont rotate making the CM run around the whole builkding before we can reset. Many times this makes us miss another roatation so it then repeats itself. So please dont leave till you are escorted out by an CM during an evacuation.

I really am not getting why Disney will not close this ride...for a refurbishment that is. After all 'Stitch' is open and regaurdless of negativity it still is able to draw in the crowds. Timekeeper is pretty much a dead attraction in my opinion. TTA may go down for a refurb if that rumor ever comes true...so why not close the CoP for a rehab since Tomorrowland is already slowly loosing itself.

I wonder if there are options that Disney is looking at:

1.) Close it/Demolish it/Disney Heaven

2.)Close it but save the sets or other works for something else.

3.) Send it to California

4.) Give it to a museum or in Disney's case, sell it for megabucks.

5.) Move it to Epcot or let it stay in tomorrowland.

I think the theater sensors or w/e makes it stop when someone stands up is a demise for the CoP. They really should stop with the video feed and just let one or two castmembers stay in the carousel theater with the audience like they used to.

This ride has a great history and is a unique ride, it's not like an ole merry go round or tilt-a-whirl. Especially it is a Disney ride and a ride made by Walt. I know the criticism of "the ride is tired and old" well my God Disney has allowed to become this way. The ride needs a facelift now because the 1994 version is a shadow of the 1964 or anyother version of the CoP.

yes but in our speils we ask them to remain seated...and leaving the thetre E Stops us making us run an intrusion often missing a rotation making it alot worse.

Yes, you are right. I have been on CoP many times when guests have left the theater before the show was over. It's a shame that people behave that way.

After reading the CM responses in this thread, I must apologize for being a pain and leaving the theater when it didn't rotate. However, even though the theater had not rotated twice in a row, no CM ever came over the PA to explain the situation or to tell us to remain seated. Everyone was confused, and as far as anyone knew, the ride was down indefinitely. As I reached the front of the building, there was a single CM standing at the console just kind of staring off into space. Guests are unpredictable enough as it is. The inaction of the CMs that day only made things worse.

i agree...the CM should have at least speiled over the PA to remain seated and either told them that a cast mamber will be there shortly to take the guests out or when the next rotation will be "this theatre will be rotating in ___ minutes please remain seated for your safety"

I think a short refurbishment in which shoulder restraints are installed would solve a lot of the problems I'm hearing about.

Either that, or grab those DNA cannons from SGE and load 'em with live rounds.

Be glad

Not to say guests should self-evacuate - However, be very, very glad it will e-stop. For those that know the incident it wasn't pretty. :(

I saw the same thing on PoC. People were self evacutating themselves. We were down by the fire scene and people were climbing from boat to boat then off to the exit doors. In CoP I've seen similar things. I think both times because there wasn't a faster anouncment...But to be fair some of the folks didnt speak english which made the matter worse even after the anouncement..

As for the COP. A rehab is way in order for this classic ride.

I'm still trying to figure out how that CM died at America Sings. I know she was a new CM, but still even when the CoP used to be there when they created the second theater and second pavilion, you still had a CM that had their own seperate booth to watch guests in their own theater, so each CM was assigned a theater.

From looking at America Sings' load and unload theaters how could she have been crushed to death by the moving wall? Wouldn't she have just been moved around the carousel curved wall of the stage?

Was it them making the theater going from clockwise to counterclockwise at fault?

Is this why it was looked at to instal new walls and revise the theater when the CoP opened in 1975?
