Old Skyway Stations

I myself do not know of anything at the moment for replacements to the old Skyway buildings in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland, nor have I really heard major rumors about them. Does anyone else know anything?

I dont think anything will be done with these buildings, at least for a while. There have been plenty of rumors about what will become of them, but nothing has been true... yet.

I thought the Fantasyland station was going to be remodeled into a restaurant, that's the rumour I heard. But I'm happy w/ what they were doing with it when I was there August, it was a character greeting. That building is really pretty.

The Tomorrowland Station would've been a perfect place for a new Stitch attraction.

Seriously though I really wish they could do SOMETHING with these areas. They are both great parts of land to do something with. They don't even have to make it a ride. Something like a resturant or shop or SOMETHING would be great.

Hmmm....good question. It doesn't seem like either one is sitting on that much land, and they're kind of squeezed in tight spots.

The last time I rode it, I was in my lower teens. I remember it making a turn, out at a little green platform in the trees somewhere. Where was/is that platform in relation to the rest of the park, and is it still there? I can't even picture where it would have been now - since I never thought about it when I rode it.

As you look at the entrance of the Speedway, wasn't the turn to the left of the entrance, where the cars came back into the Speedway for you to exit? I think that's where the Skyway turn was. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

That is correct. Now, as far as the Fantasyland Skyway Station goes, there's really no room there for anything. The whole station backs up into the Haunted Mansion show building. That's why it's on a false hill. And Small World is right next to it. Don't expect anything there soon. As for Tomorrowland, well, the little stage in front of the old tomorrowland Skyway Station is set to be removed soon. WDI is mostly focused on Project Gemini right now, but Tomorrowland is next in line, with a few changes in Fantasyland as well. Tomorrowland's station will be removed, and something new will be built there, after all, there's a lot more room there then you'd think. ;) Espically on the other side of the train tracks. But that's not going to happen for quite a while. The Fantasyland 20,000 Leagues project comes first... they plan to fill in the lagoon next year.

as far as the Fantasyland station, i have no clue what that will become, i know it has been used as a character meet and greet, tomorrowland, however, right now does still have the stairs and the skyways buckets are still in the area above, I work in TL and I recently checked it out after closing. The rumor i just heard today at work is that they are going to try and put in lockers for space mtn. Today and all week there have been people inside SPMT surveying how many people use the pockets on the side of the rockets and how much "stuff" they are carrying on with them. good times. hope that was helpful.

These could be true, I lworked in T-Land during Fall 02, The last thing I have heard from *oops, sorry I can't say that here :zipit: * is that they are looking into turning the skyway building into a training facility for TL CM's, but nothing is set in stone, it could very well be used as something for Mountain Moles as well. :animwink:

Also, I thought it was stated that the Fantasyland station would be changed during the Small World rehab. Along with entrance and exits being swapped, I had heard this would be used for stroller storage so the middle of Fantasyland wouldn't be so cluttered. :king:

Yea I've been waiting for Imagineering to announce a multi-level stroller parking deck for fantasyland.

I actually got to see them doing pseudo stroller storage at the Fantasyland skyway. It looked like you gave them your stroller at the old entrance, then picked it up at the old exit. It was very busy that day, and looked like they needed it to preserve the sanity of people walking b/w peter pan and iasw :).

It would be nice to see it used for strollers. It is SO crazy in that area when it's really busy. It takes forever to get through.

I havent got a faintest clue in what is going to go there but as
WDW*babe said about the strollers idea, i believe they could do this in the Tomorowland stand but not the fantasy land venue.

dxwwf3... There is a shop under the Tomorrowland station already. It closed down a while ago but it's still there. Besides, don't they already have enough shops in Tomorrowland? How about a restaurant? Like a Buzz Lightyear/Stitch character thing.

well I've heard rummors and maybe someone here knows for sure, but the building portion of the TL station is being used to store all of the old buckets from the skyways. like I said I'm not sure if thats correct however it would be pretty easy to store them there.

The Fantasyland building itself is so beautiful I'd like to see them leave the building as it is now. I wish they'd put in something more than a stroller parking garage or a character meet and greet. I'd love to see some kind of new attraction, but maybe that's just me.
