old key west or beach club villas

We are contemplating a trip down this christmas with the in-laws.
There will be six of us. So I really wanted a 2 bedroom villa. The only two resorts available were okw and bcv. However, bcv ends up being $1000 more for the same amount of time. Is it worth it?

Hi, you do have the option of any DVC resort. (Boardwalk, OKW, VWL or BCV) If you "rent points" it is a bit cheaper and worth it. (normal price is 10$ a point, and a 2 bedroom BCV goes for 40 points a night on aveverage for Sun-Thurs and 75 on Fri and Sat depending on the time of year). For Christmas week it is 50 points a night Sun-Thurs and 106 on Fri, Sat.

OKW or a standad view room at BW is the cheapest. I have heard great things about OKW and many people love BWV. The easiest to get into is OKW because of the size.

I think it depends on what age the people are going are. If you have really young kids the pool at BCV, SAB is wonderful. I think it is the best pool ever. My DD has so much fun in it last month when we stayed there. Also BCV is so close the Epcot and very convent that way. There are many dining options also, not as much at OKW but if you are eating in the parks or your room that doesn't matter to much.

Even if you stay at OKW it is wonderful resort and I am sure you will be very gald. IMO OKW is more like a Mod resort such as PO, but with better rooms!!!!!

Good luck.

BCV is my home DVC resort and it is fantastic. My in-laws home DVC is at OKW. I've stayed at each several times and I definately prefer BCV. The location is MUCH better (walking distance to Epcot and Boardwalk and a boat to MGM) and the BCV pool is the best IMHO. OKW is harder to get around. However, with that kind of price difference, it really depends on what you want. If you're going to go back to your room often or spend a lot of time there, then BCV is worth it. I think that you really need a car to stay at OKW and there is a decent amount of time you'd need to get in and out of parking (including the tram ride and all). If you just want a room and won't be spending much time there, then OKW is nice.

The only thing I like better about OKW is that your front door is to the outside whereas BCV you walk out into a hall. That makes OKW seem a little more like a home and BCV more like a hotel.

Well since you are going down Christmas....I say go for BCV

Christmas week is a pain...ur going to want to go back to your resort ans swim...eat..and relax to get away from the crowds....

When we were down there at Christmas....we spent many afternoons at the Boardwalk...and minigolfing....

I absolutely love the BCV...the theming is excellent and location is great...

I personally don't know if its worth the extra $1,000....but from what I have heard and read...it is...

thanks for the responses. My initial post might be moot at this point. Last night we pretty much decided to go in July. So it looks like we will be able to stay at either bwv or bcv.

i would say either of those 2; i LOVE the whole BW/BC/YC resort area; thereis always something to do, and the whole BW area reall comes alive at night... in my opinion this happens to be the best resort location on property:cool:

We have stayed at OKW twice thus far and are planning our third trip for this May there.

We've never stayed at BWV or any of the other villas, yet (hopefully some day). We own a timeshare outside of Disney & have to go through Interval for an exchange. We are just thrilled that we are staying on property!! :sohappy:

Anyway, OKW is really nice and quiet. The only time we had to stand on the bus was after the evening activities like Illuminations or Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks. We have never had a car at Disney & totally rely on the transportation. Last year we had an EARLY breakfast at 1900 PF and the driver drove us directly there!! What wonderful service!

We have three children (10, 8 & 4) and they absolutely love it there, too. My 10 yr old even commented that it's like home. We love when they greet us with "Welcome Home!" when we first arrive. They are sooooo right.

Anyway, my family's opinion could change drastically if and when we stay at another villa.

Right now they are pleased with the pools at OKW AND the jakuzzi!! (Have to remember those bath bubbles this time). What a wonderful way to relax after walking all day.

Whatever you decide I'm sure that you will have fun! :)

Main advantage of OKW is MUCH bigger condos and you park right by your door. It's off the beaten path so it feels less crowded.

BCV and BWV are more in the middle of the action. More glamorous pools and walk-to-Epcot convenience. The Boardwalk has good restaurants and entertainment (but BCV is only a 5 min walk from there). They are on opposite sides of a small lake.

If you will spend most of your time in the parks stay at the cheaper resort. If you will take a lot of time off, consider the BCV or OKW.

One other thing,

If you rent points as mentioned above, you will be accessing a different virtual pools of condos. A number are assigned for DVC members (points) and some for cash-paying customers. So it's possible to have openings for condo rental (cash) and not available for points, and vice versa.

Basically, it comes down to space versus location. We have stayed at OKW every trip since we joined in 1995. WE love having all that room to spread out in. In October, we're going to be at BWV, since we're going with my folks and we wanted to try something different. (Actually, we wanted to stay at BCV, but they didn't have the accommodations that we needed available for those dates.) For us, it was definitely a case of "well, it'll be a little claustrophobic after OKW, and it'll be a pain not to have the car right outside the door, but we're within walking distance of two parks, and we've got all of the attractions of BW and YC/BC, so it's giving up space for location."

What do you want your vacation to feel like? A hotel room near the parks, or a spacious home for downtime away from the parks?
