I am a big fan of old Disney attractions. I would just like to know if anybody has good memories of old Epcot attractions like Horizons, World of Motion, Communicore, the old Universe of Energy, etc. I only got to go on Horizons once and would love to hear stories of the old Epcot.

The smell of oranges is my biggest memory. My mom would ALWAYS call it the orange ride, it was the only ride in Epcot that we rode every single trip we went. I'm so glad now that we did it :-/ Also when Tomorrow's Child used to play in Spaceship earth...I really miss that song.

Having to ride World of Motion twice each time at Epcot so me and my sis could pick our "ending" to the ride!

Can someone explain this more in depth to me? I have heard about this before but I am curious to hear more about how this ride really worked:confused:

Thanks, Curious in Chicago:lol:

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, so I'll explain it to you, anyway.

Actually, World of Motion was not the attraction where you picked your own ending, rather Horizons. There were three endings to choose from, Space, Sea, and Desert. Whichever ending got the majority out of the four people in the pod, a screen would appear in front of you, which moved with you, and flaps that came down to your sides so that you could not see other endings. If there was a tie, I think that one ending would be randomly chosen, but not entirely sure about that.

Anyway, most of my memories from REAL Epcot (don't get me wrong, it's still my favorite park, but it used to be five times better) are from Horizons, which makes sense, since it's my favorite attraction. I distinctly remember the neon city, the family apartment, the orange room, the space colony, and the ending that you chose. Wow, Horizons was the best ride ever. :(

I remember the spiral outside upwars from World of Motion, the footsteps around you, and the Jerusalem part. From Journey Into Imagination, I mainly remember the preshow. I remember the original ending to Spaceship Earth, too. If I remember correctly, it was a long, blue tunnel, with televisions showing negative-photograph-type videos of adults playing with children, and "Tomorrow's Child" playing in the background.

Of course, I remember better from videos and pictures, but what I mentioned is what I *vividly* remember.

I think they probably meant Horizons. The ending of Horizons would give you three options of how to return in time. You could choose space, sea and desert I believe. And then after the votes of the car were tallied,a big screen would be in front of you and side screens would come up on each side of the car and there would be a short film (with the orange smell if you chose the desert!) of the little transport thing flying around in whatever location and you'd dock and then the car would continue and go around to the exit bay. Basically that's it.

My only old Epcot memory was I remember crying my eyes out on Horizons, and I distinctly remember the blue thing you ride in, hanging from the roof, and the buttons light up, and you pick your ending..and we got Sea...Thats what I remember, and I was like, 2....I have old Disney memories from everywhere. I have been going to Disney on a monthly basis ever since I was born (Dad met Mom at Fort Wilderness when she used to work there, things happend, I was born, and been going to Disney ever since)

One of my most vivid memories of the old Epcot was going to Communicore and seeing the big population counter. It was a big counter with rotating disks that showed the current population of the world. Around the same time, back in 1990, I also remember having my parents buy me a small robot toy in Communicore that responded to light that you had to assemble.

I barely remember WoM and Horizons, since I last saw them back in '90 when I was 7 - but my memory of them was helped after I saw this old book in my library about Epcot. The book was from early 1982 (before Epcot opened) and had conceptual pictures and pictures of scaled models.

I also remember going to the original JIYI back in '90 and being upset because I missed the fireworks.

Well, I do not know where to start since I have been going to EPCOT Center since it opened. But let's see.

First Trip 1983 (Early March) - Sitting in Spaceship Earth going down backwards and getting stuck for over 20 minutes. I still love Tomorrow's Child though

Same trip - watching the "Energy, You Make the World Go Round" rotating screen movie 3 times and never getting on the ride portion because the cars kept breaking down (I really miss the ingenuity of that movie).

Getting stuck on Horizons where "Scott" is learning the diving rules - "and don't even Seahorse around"

The real Journey Into Imagination - The Whole Ride! - One Little Spark - the rotating theater, the "white room". That was a great ride they did not have to ruin.

Magic Journeys - both at EPCOT Center and Magic Kingdom - that was breakthrough 3-D

Captain EO - what a great music video - still the best ever

The preshow for Captain EO (no not Makin' Memories or the current "True Colors") - this one was so cute, with the daddy trying to take pictures of his son - "Smile, say cheese, a little laughter if you please, turn a big frown upside down, you know its easy, smile, cheese, magic memories, every time your capture a smile." Anyone have this song?

Communicore- just so much cooler than half of innoventions - not an advertisers showroom

The original laser light show - that was cool ( I know ROE is better)

Kitchen Kabaret - veggie, veggie, fruit, fruit (who needs to say more)

and last but not least - all songs they removed from the original EPCOT Center (which they now play as part of the new entrance medely)

I loved how all of future world fit together....the circle logos, the architecture, the way that each pavillion was truly a piece of a "whole"....it had such a cooler atmosphere!!! Not that it is unbearable now, but I loved that. It seems that now that Epcot is going through this transition, we may not see unity for a while......:( :) :) :) :)

Thanks I wasn't being sarcastic, I was just trying to add some humor to my post!

I believe the ride you're refering to is Horizons :)

Anyone remember / miss way back in the day when the Sunshine Food Fair had a lot more interesting snacks to choose from? Last time I was there the selection was just same old, same old. :(

Speaking of food...does anyone else miss the fact that the old counter service restaurants in the old "Communicore" are gone...leaving just the "Electric Umbrella"? How much chicken can a person consume in an afternoon?

The old Communicore had a lot! The "Backstage Magic" where you could see some of the actual computers that ran backstage operations such as the Audio-Animatronics...that was back when Epcot had a lot more attractions sponsored by other companies. I was just looking back at an old guide map from 1987!
...I kept a lot of stuff from those old visits!

I LOVE the Electric Umbrella. My 2nd favorite counter service only second to Pinnochio's in MK. I make it a point to eat there every time!

YES!! I did mean Horizons, I dont know what happened but my mistake is unexcusable as a true fan. My deepest apologies, but thanks for all correcting, and doing ti in a nice manner.:)

When they took your picture in Imagination was also really cool at my young age, it was always fun.
