Ol Man Island pool closed

Read yesterday on Touringplans.com that Ol Man Island at Port Orleans Riverside was closing for refurbishment. We contacted Disney today. It will be closed until Sept 3. I sure wish reservations had told me it would be closed when we first made our reservations. Yes I realize we can walk to French Quarter and use that pool. Its just not the same. Anyone else let down by this news?

My aunt was scheduled to stay at WL for their last trip. Just before they were set to arrive they found out the pool was going to be closed so they had their reservations changed to a different resort that had an opened pool.

When did you make your reservations?

We really like the pool area and were let down to hear the news. We are thinking about changing resorts but we have 5 people and cost may be prohibitive. Also since the free dining reservation time has ended will they let us rebook at a different resort and still keep the dining?

I would suggest calling reservations and telling them you are dissappointed in the closure and asking if they would simply move your reservations to another resort. I would think that due to the inconvenience, they would give you a few options, as well as move other rooms for your party to the same resort. Remember, they are working people just like you and I, and being nice never hurts.

Bingo, the nicer you are, the more likely they will go out of their way to help you.

Doesn't POR have 5 pools?, the Ole Man Island and then 4 quiet pools? I know that with children you would want to use the pool with the slides etc., but the other pools are great for a cool off. We like to go to the quiet pools at the resorts, they tend to be less crowded though with the slide pool closed, the others will have more people there.

I just got off the phone with someone at POR (executive office) and was told that the main pool is NOT under refurbishment at this time. Unless I was given bad info, you should be OK.

This is the post from Touringplans.com. I also called POR and was told the pool is open and will not be closing. I sent an email to Touringplans to see what they have to say about the pool situation.

Riverside playground work

We're hearing reports that the refurbishment walls have gone up at Port Orleans Riverside at the Old Man Island Pool and Playground areas. The scope of the work is just a general revitalization and some better lighting.

Pool isn't closed now

We just stayed there until this Monday the 16th and I can tell you that it was only the playground that was affected. The pool was open every day. There are construction walls around the playground and on half of the bridge nearest it. They have thick plywood sheets laid down on half of the bridge, presumably to allow heavy equipment to cross without damaging the bridge.
