You seem to forget that Florida is in fact a SWAMP...bugs here are a lot bigger and meaner than anyplace else in the country. It doesnt matter HOW clean your house is..Palmetto bugs FLY..so they dont live in your house.

My dad owns an exterminating company, and he sends me chemicals and pesticides all the time..they almost NEVER work.. the only things that die from them are ant and roaches, which believe me..are the LEAST of your problems.

Where you live does have a bearing on bugs. We live in a house that is about 90 years old (ancient by Florida standards) and have less bugs than we did in the brand new house we rented when we first arrived. Since it was new construction, things got stirred up, and we found all sorts of things in the house. Now we still find lots of things, but they're somewhat different. Now is absolutely right! Florida is a temperate swamp. Sometimes it almost reaches rain forest status in areas, sometimes it's dry as a bone. But we NEVER have a true winter, so these creatures have more time to multiply and survive. They breed several times a year, instead of just summer, so there are more of them.

We're not trying to scare you, just want you to be prepared.

I don't know if anybody mentioned this to you yet but there is a reply button...you don't have to start a new thread for everything you say! ;)

I'll also be in Florida soon and like you I can stand the gators, giant reptiles ect...but I don't like bugs!! lol Butyou've got to take the bad along with the GREAT...Florida being the great part. Both NowInc and TheMom are from my neck of the woods...TheMom is actually from the same town as me...and they have both adjusted just like I'm sure you and I will do. :)

PS I think you're in denial!! I mean why would they be lying to you? I've only been to Florida on vacations and have had bugs in my hotel room at Disney World no less!! So it's not a matter of cleanliness...theyre just there and thats how it is! :p

BTW I don't think being a total slob would help thee bug situation though. :D

Avoiding the bugs

Tips for avoiding those hamster-sized palmetto bugs:
  • Live in a detached dwelling (apartment dwellers, beware)
  • Keep thine floors and countertops clean and dishes washed
  • Bring in a pest control service before moving in
  • Periodically treat areas around doors, cabinets, "major appliances"
  • Treat the perimeter of your house as well
  • Keep a light on in the kitchen and bath all night

since i'm from pennsylvania and moved to omaha,ne ever state has its lingo. for an example here in omaha every sports team is named after a cow. they call soft drinks pop or call bags sacks. where i'm from pennsylvania we call them soda or bags. but when you ask for a soda in omaha they look at you really funny. please don't come to omaha it is so boring that all the bugs and animals left. oh one last thing don't visit there zoo unless you like very steep hills and how horrible they treat the animals:eek:
