'Ohana vs Luau

Hi everyone,
I have reservations for 'Ohana, but friends decided to meet us so I booked the luau for all 6 people. Today I called and got a reservation for 3 at 6:35pm in addition to my original 6:50pm for 3 at 'Ohana. Two questions. First is 'Ohana the better reservation? It is 4 adults and 2 kids age 5 and 6 years. And second what is likelihood that if all of us arrive and check in early that we could be seated together at 'Ohana?

Thanks for the help,
Cristin

They are very hard to compare. Aloha is a dinner show where as Ohana is basically just a buffet.

For food alone I prefer Ohana.

The odds of you being able to sit together at Ohana is fairly good providing you arrive a little early and are willing to wait a little.

Ohana has plenty of tables suited for big parties.

They always have parties of 3 or 4 seating at tables built for 8 or more lol.

Master Yoda,

Thanks for the info on 'Ohana seating with multiple ADRs.

My understanding is that 'Ohana has some activities that occur during dinner like coconut races, hula dancing, and some entertainment. Is this accurate?

And is the luau show something special or pretty mundane?

Thanks!

Dinner at Ohana will have live entertainment with a ukulele player, singers as well as some stuff for the kids like the races. It is my understanding that characters are only there during breakfast.

I would put the show at Aloha in the something special category as it is a full blown stage show and not just a skit done in the corner of a restaurant.

The best way to know if you will like it is to watch it for yourself.

If you have a lot of time the video below is of the full show with no cuts.

Spirit of Aloha is one of those experiences everyone should do at least once.'Ohana is a definite fave of ours, especially for dinner. We absolutely love the food there!!! They also offer one of the best drinks on property, the Lapu Lapu!! (ask for a side car of Malibu rum with it!)

I personally think the food at Ohana is way better than the luau. That's not to say the luau food is bad, I just think the Ohana food is above the luaus. Also, I think Ohana would be the better fit if you are meeting friends, this way you can talk and interact with each other. You won't have much time to talk if you want to pay attention to the show (which is quite good). Like others have said they are 2 different experiences but if you want better food and to interact with your friends I would choose Ohana.

'Ohana all the way! The food is much much better than the Spirit of Aloha.

Also, the Spirit of Aloha is a very overrated show.

I haven't done the dinner show yet, but I can attest to how great 'Ohana is. Their food is AMAZING! Plus if you're there late enough, you can walk down to the beach and watch Wishes from the beach.

Ohana. The food is better. No show.

The Aloha show. Food was ok, felt rushed to finish eating. Show was.....eh. Fire twirling guy was awesome. And the dancing was good. The story behind the show was.....was.....dumb.

The current show is atrocious at best. Imagine a lobotomy mixed with dialog from Lilo and Stitch. Watching the show you'd believe that all the representative cultures exist within the area of New Jersey instead of from New Zealand to Hawai'i.

We did spirit of aloha last month it was fun, food was ok. Something you will enjoy once. OHana's breakfast and dinner are both very good. We do dinner everytime!

How much better are the "Category 1" seats compared to the "Category 2" and "Category 3" seats? I have the dining plan so only can sit in Category 2 or Category 3. I assume 2 is better than 3, but is it a totally different experience sitting in Category 1 vs. Category 2?
