My family and I have been to both Ohana and Boma. We intend to return to Ohana later, but we've been back to Boma five times, so that shows you our preference.
I don't understand those who complain about the food at Boma being too exotic. Yes, Boma does offer some exotic dishes, but it also has prime rib, chicken strips, macaroni and cheese, and all sorts of other "comfort" foods. My family prefers it because you can try the exotic things, but always know you can get something you like if the exotic doesn't please.
We certainly enjoyed Ohana, but the menu doesn't give you as many choices. I liked the flank steak and the tiger shrimp; the turkey tended to get dry, and the barbecued pork was downright nasty. To me it tasted like it had been basted in vinegar, which I suppose is some folks idea of a barbecue sauce, but not mine. But, for me, that doesn't mean I disliked the place. I don't like all the choices at Boma either. It's just that there are more of them.
As I said, we did enjoy our visit to Ohana and plan to go back this fall sometime. But we'll probably also go to Boma. Given the choice of only one, I'd take Boma.
Someone mentioned that, being at the AKL, Boma's a little more difficult to get to. To me, that's a plus. In addition, AKL is a great place to wander, especially at night. Out by Arusha Rocks they usually have CM's stationed with night vision binoculars that they'll let you use to look at the animals.
