Ohana or Cape May?

We have never tried either the Cape May Cafe or Ohana, and both sound interesting for dinner. Our kids will be 6 and 9 for the next trip, and the 6 yr old is rather picky. We have trouble getting him to eat anything anyway....

My question to the experts....which do you prefer? Which would be better for kids? It sounds like Ohana has some fun activities for dinner and the way they serve sounds fun. Also, to stroll around the respective resorts and maybe look in the shops, which is better? Any input would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thank you! :sohappy:

We just returned from the happiest place on earth 3 days ago:( . While we have eaten at O'hanas on both of our previous trips and loved it, this time with our picky eaters (6 & 8) we didn't enjoy it as much. My daughter did do the hula contest and the coconut race, but they barely touched the food. Then the waitress took pity on us (I think) and offered the kids some mac-n-cheese. It wasn't on the menu so I didn't know it was available. If you go there and your kids refuse to eat the family style fare, order them macaroni and you can enjoy your own food and the atmosphere better. We were also there on the dining plan and they offered me a virgin drink and said we could have up to four at our table along with our other drinks. My daughter loved the strawberry "slushie". (By the way, even though we stayed at BC, I have never tried Cape May.)

I think that if you are going based on meal alone then Cape May is a better choice. There is a lot more choose from on the buffet and depending on what you are looking for is the quieter option.

I like Ohana, but I think that you get a better meal at Cape May. Ohana has a little bit more family appeal, but you have to be a carnivore to really enjoy it. The meal is really comprised of cubed meats (that are very good), but that is the extent. You get some side dishes, but there isn't a very large selection.

Have you tried Whispering Canyon Cafe? That's another barrel of fun for kids and teens alike.

HOORAY for Whispering Canyon Cafe! [Thats my favorite! :p ]

I would go for Ohana. We did the Charachter breakfast in the am and had a great time! And the food was good for the price.

OH BTW if you have upcoming trips go ahead and make RSVP' s 90 days out, we were told by the Disney Dining Service the Castle and Chef Mickey's was booked through the end of September. [Just passing along what we were told]

Both Ohana and Cape May are excellent places to eat. Kind of hard to compare though.

I've stayed a the Yacht and Beach Club the past 4 times I was at Disney and we've done Cape May for dinner many times. I really do enjoy it and for your picky eater it might be the better choice.

In July we tried Ohana for the first time and I've got to tell you my husband and I absolutely loved it. It's an awesome setting and the food is great. I love the Pina Colatas if you go - have one - YUM! :slurp: I would totally recommend it - but my concern is your picky eater - I'm afraid there won't be anything that they would enjoy. My suggestion would be to call Ohana direct before you go. Explain to them your situation - I'm sure they would be happy to tell you what other selections they will have available for you. Call the front desk at Poly and ask them to transfer you. Call after 5 though - Ohana does not start seating til 5 so if you call before you might not get anyone.

Or you could always do what another member suggested and try them both - nothing wrong with that!!! :)

Ohanas gets my vote. I normally don't even have room for the meats! I just eat and eat and eat the green beans, rice, wontons and chicken wings. YUM!!! And the salad...I have to get many refills on that one!

Cape May is ok, but I just really prefer my food brought to me rather than me having to go get it. There are a few buffets that I will make an exception for, but normally I prefer table service.

As far as alternative foods, doesn't Ohanas have the PB&J uncrustables? I know they are at the Luau, and I'm thinking they are available at Ohanas too.

My children (7 and 3) also prefer Ohanas hands down. My daughter can't get enough of the salad and rice!
