'Ohana Cutbacks?

In my opinion, not very.
I feel like Disney is throwing the word "Szechuan" around very loosely because the steak they serve really just tastes like steak to me. If they do anything to it at all it's probably just a bit of garlic and butter.
I don't feel like the shrimp was particularly hot either but I also remember not being that impressed with it. The pork is mild too; it has a sweet, mildly citrus taste to it but that's about it.
Honestly, I'll bet your 3-year-old will be more than happy to just chow down on the lo mein.

So, can anyone confirm that the chicken is actually not being served yet?

If anyone is preemptively missing it, you might want to try this recipe: http://www.magicalrecipes.net/ohana-white-meat-marinade-recipe/
I made that last night and the grilled chicken we marinated in it was very accurate to what Disney is/was using on the chicken skewers.
Thank you so much for your detailed reply. Really appreciated :)

Ok, good to know that the meats & shrimp are not overly spicy. He actually likes flavour to his food, but obviously not so keen on the heat so it sounds as if it'll be good for him. You're right about the noodles- he'll be very happy making his way through those!
Thanks again for your response :)

When we went in early April, we were not served any pork. We thought that it was odd at the time but we had a late reservation ...

I am not sure how wings are a replacement for grilled chicken when both are on the menu. I do not like steak. All I ate from the grill was chicken and shrimp (best when its peeled). I am fine with the wings - but I am not sure if its worth the $50. I trying my best to remain open minded. I think I am getting older and realize the meaning of a dollar.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO:banghead: My daughter talks about the chicken all the time - the pork was not that good and we don't eat seafood. Chicken is a safe offering.

even if they offered shrimp already peeled, would be something atleast! I vote to bring sausage back and not pack the skewers so tight.

If you go to the grocery store and see how much boneless chicken cost, I can see why. Its crazy...unless you buy from Costco lol.

When Disney is purchasing the volume of chicken they do I am guessing they are able to negotiate a price as good as Costco or better. lol

Wasn't all that long ago the Poly changed their Luau menu too and not for the better.

Just left 'Ohana 5 minutes ago, we were served:
Bread
Salad
Noodles
Veggies
Dumplings
Chicken wings
Grilled steak
Grilled pork
Grilled shrimp
Grilled Chicken
I've cream and banana bread pudding

Seems like the menu is the same as it was 5 years ago when we had it last.

See - when you put it like this I am sold!!! Sign me up :)

There menu is disgusting. I have went to the Luau twice and it is terrible (sorry I guess I am in the minority again)

No need to be sorry. We stopped going years and years ago. You can only lower the quality of the food so many times before the quality of food at the Flame Tree QS stand is far superior to an expensive dining experience. I got over LeCellier too. I am disappointed when this happens but there are always less popular dining experiences that are hidden gems that still maintain quality or at least until they discovered and become popular. Then the dumbing down of menus occur.

Noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The chicken was actually my favorite :arghh:

this is a Hawaiian themed restaurant for gods sake, how about some grilled teriyaki chicken lol

Nope

Keep the chicken off the menu ..... and replace it with Spam.

Cheap, pre-cooked (food safety problems - gone), and it is Hawaiian

Ok Disney, I'll take my marketing fee now.

I can't help but think, this is a safety issue. I do catering, and you have to be REALLY careful with chicken. Maybe the prep area had bacteria or the chicken was packed so tightly on the skewers, some pieces weren't completely cooked?!!?! But, it had to happen more than once for them to just yank the chicken off of the menu (IF this were the case) Several years ago, they replaced the turkey with the chicken (I thought it was due to cost... chicken was cheaper) Maybe they will bring back the sausage? What I don't like is they subtract offerings, yet raise the price. Doesn't seem fair to me.

I would agree with you except for the fact that this is not some backwater, hole in the wall, mom & pop operation. Nor it is a field kitchen where sanitation is harder to maintain. This is a professional kitchen in an established permanent (albeit crappy in my opinion) restaruant. There are enough qualified food service people out there looking for jobs that Disney should not have to take chicken off the menu because they cannot get trained people to perpare it safely. It's not like it's fugu.

Totally agree... but in my small time experiences (I do have inspectors who check out prep areas, meat temps, etc) I know how hard it can be. If (say this with emphasis) IF there was a prep problem, it happened more than once. Qualified food service people, by and large, may not be aware of cross contamination. I completely agree, this SHOULD be priority one, but again, it had to happen more than once... I definately think it was a safety issue, either prep or was served under cooked or under temp
