Oh, this makes me jealous.

I believe he's from Adventureland. He was a mascot for Florida orange juice. Well, he doesn't have our new style of tag--we have a new logo similar to Tokyo Disney Seas that's appearing on all of our tags. I'm not sure whether Japan Disney Store is connected to us any more, or whether they're still part of the Company.

This, my friends, is a little orange bird.

Say "Hello!" little orange bird!!

He says hello.

This Orange Bird used to be a mascot in ADVENTURELAND.

Wanna see him?

<img src="http://home.cfl.rr.com/omniluxe/sttobird.jpg">

He was created by Disney as the mascot for the FLORIDA CITRUS GROWERS. They sponsored the Tropical Serenade, Walt Disney World's version of the Enchanted Tiki Room!

In fact, in Adventureland's Sunshine Tree Terrace, there was an actual SUNSHINE TREE -- a beautiful piece of art which featured the little orange bird resting in it. It was a beautiful backdrop that was removed years ago.

The Little Orange Bird became a star. Walt Disney World produced a book about the birdie's story - as well as records ("The Story Songs of the Orange Bird"), which additionally played the Little Orange Bird theme song - written by Disney legends, the Sherman Brothers. He also appeared in commercials and starred in educational videos in the early 80s.

Little Orange Bird was retired in 1986.

But for some reason, new merchandise is made for Tokyo. WHY?

We miss you, little Orange Bird.

Thanks Grizz, an interesting read. :wave:
You're welcome! I wish I could provide more. There used to be a whole website dedicated to the Orange Bird... the webmaster was creating nice quality flash animated cartoon shorts. There was also a digital version of the book that was released.

Sorry I didn't answer your question -- I didn't bid on it. I've seen a few antiques though in several stores up and down the East Coast. You never know where he'll pop up next... :D

aww...I nearly forgot about the Orange Bird! I recall seeing pictures of him from time to time. Still, very strange that WDW hasn't brought him out of retirement (seems Tokyo Disney took care of that)
