Whilst it may be billed as Fantasy in the Sky, it won't necessarily be the show of old. The fireworks on July 3rd/4th were called that, but it wasn't the full show that used to play every night.

I will add that December 30 & 31 are the only times of the year that you will ever see the original "Fantasy in the Sky". If you go I suggest to see it on the 30th since the 31st will be insanely crowded due to New Years. I saw the show last year, in fact I was working on Main Street, for the countdown. It was really good. Fireworks will be shot of the main site, the Fantasyland rooftops, Fireworks Island (located in the lagoon), and the perimeters. Its a great show and I highly recommend it.

The original WDW Fantasy in the Sky was premiered around 1976 - I doubt this will be the original; it changed so much (with MAJOR differences) over the years, FitS just became the generic name for the MK`s Firework show, before Wishes.

Boo - any news??

Regardless of what the actual presentation results in, I'm excited to see Spectro, Wishes and the not-sure-if-it's-the-original-but-I'm-OK-with-that FitS fireworks on Dec. 30 and then 2 presentations of Illuminations on Dec. 31!!

I'm pretty sure for the special firework showings of FITS they now also utilize the rooftop launch sites installed for Wishes, right? They did for the Fourth of July FITS show.

I know they did the New Year's Eve fireworks last year on both the 30th and the 31st. Does anyone know though if the show on the 30th also includes the perimeters and the fireworks shot off the island in the Seven Seas Lagoon as they do on the real NYE? I have yet to be in the MK for NYE (usually always go to Epcot or MGM), but I'd love to see the MK's NYE fireworks and was planning on spending NYE there this year. If I can see the whole show on the 30th though, that's would I'd like to do and then spend NYE at Epcot.

We usually spend NYE at Epcot as well; last year on the 30th we hit the 9:30 Illuminations+Holiday tag then headed over to the MK to close the evening, where they ran the entire NYE show (normal launch point behind the castle, seven seas lagoon, perimeters etc).

Lots of fun-- especially with Epcot's Holiday Tag (which was a happy bonus on NYE since they ran it twice as well!) -- if you like great big kaBOOMs in the sky. :)

Both nights will include the New Year segment. The Fantasy in Sky show will be the one prior to Wishes. After the 1st part of the show ends (after Little Mermaid segment), there will be the New Year countdown in which perimeters will be launched, after the "Happy New Year" segment, the shows original grand finale will be performed. The Main site, the Fantasyland rooftops, and Seven Seas Lagoon will be used thoughout the entire show.

For those of you planning to be at MK for NYE, I highly suggest you arrive around 6:00 as the place will close early. Last year we had to close around 9:00 because MK was OVER the maximum capacity.

For those of you who just want to see Fantasy in the Sky, watch it on the 30th as it will be very LESS crowded, then for NYE go to either MGM to see Lights, Camera, Fireworks or Epcot to see Illuminations. This year I myself will see FITS on the 30th and will be at MGM for NYE.

Thanks for the details, all.
I've been to the World once for NYE and I spent it at Epcot.
I'm excited to be there again this year to do a MK on the 30th/Epcot on the 31st double wammy (or "combo" as "Luke" would say LOL!!).

I do not think Epcot does their Peace on Earth Holiday Tag on NYE. I was there in Japan for my 4th NYE at Epcot and the show includes the regular Illuminations, then a celebration of New Years at every represented country in the order that country welcomed the new year, then the huge grand slam finale for USA which is absolutely nuts and brilliant, even borderline too much. But, no holiday tag was included.

The holiday tag was included every other operating night in December, and I watched it from our 4th floor balcony at Yacht Club almost every night b/c it was that beautiful! :xmas:

I was at Epcot last NYE as well. The special holiday tag was included with the earlier showing of Illuminations that night. The Illuminations show done at midnight though did not include the special holiday tag but instead went directly into the NYE special finale, which is always a treat :)

There's also no mention of Wishes, or MVMCP. (Although Spectro has two listings per day today whereas it only had one yesterday!?!?)
AND MGM's calendar was no longer available when I checked this morning?
What's up with all this????? :veryconfu

Whoever is responsible for the calendars is apparently updating it already. Give it a few more days and everything will be set. Spectro twice a night is to be expected. Obviously Wishes will be presented every night. I also feel confident we will see the double FITS presentations on the 30th/31st. They did it last year and again over the 4th of July (with two separate showings on different nights). These calendars are always in flux. The hours are probably correct though, for now.

Crimony! Now they've got Wishes added back into the mix, but still no FitS or MVMCP for the whole month.

Must....be.....patient....must.....be.......patient!

OK, sorry, had to let some of my craziness out!

Here's hopin' for a steady schedule within the next couple days! I'm a planning nut and this is driving me to the edge of insanity!

Also, not listed on the calender of sorts is the fact that Holiday Wishes will be presented in place of regular Wishes on Dec 21 - 31 sans perimeters.

Just bumping up an old thread for a quick update to December's park hours that occured yesterday or today sometime. The MK has extended its operating hours for December 30th from an original closing of midnight to now close at 1:00am. With evening EMH still scheduled for the evening of the 30th, the MK will be open until 4am on the 30th and then will reopen just 3 hours later at 7am for morning EMH on the 31st. Why bother closing at all  Feel sorry for the overnight cleaning crew though. They have also re-updated the FITS schedule. Now official again, on both the 30th and the 31st as originally reported, the MK will present Wishes (reportedly Holiday Wishes, but that is not specified on the schedule) at 8:30pm and a special NYE-style Fantasy in the Sky at 11:50pm.
