I was just wondering if you have ever seen a character in costume but without their heads on?? I've seen it once, we had just finished watching a show o the stage infront of Cinderella castle and we were walking through the castle and a door on the right just after you enter the castle was slightly open, i looked in and there was a guy in a goffy costume having a cigarette!! Anybody else have an experience like this:confused: :king:

Nope, never seen this and I wouldn't want to either to be honest. Also I'm surprised he was able to have a cigarette there while working, especially while in costume. Firstly its a fire risk in a costume department, and even if he didn't start a fire, he could burn a hole in the costume!

I'm very surprised you were able to see that. They make sure the characters are far out of guest view before they can take the heads off their costume. There is a line painted on the ground in the backstage areas that show where they can take it off. The only way you would have seen it would to have been sneaking around a little in places you probably shouldn't be (not calling you a sneak or liar, it just sounds like something that wouldn't happen). When I took the Keys to the Kingdom tour they emphasized that it would be impossible for an onstage guest to see a character with no head. They make sure that system is full proof to anyone who is on stage.

When I was backstage with my marching band before the SADCT parade, I saw both Mickey and Minnie headless, though I was backstage so I guess it was all right. I was expecting to see this sort of thing backstage, so it didn't really ruin the magic for me too much.

When I used to work for Disney, I saw it a few times. On one particular occasion, I was in Florida and I wanted to go down into the tunnels under MK. So I went backstage by City Hall and was looking for where I could get to the tunnels from that spot. I saw a couple of CMs on their cigarette break and I went up and asked them for directions to the tunnels. One of them was a woman who was wearing what I thought was a big yellow "jump suit" or something. I didn't really think about it until I started to walk away and I looked down and saw Pluto's head lying next to her. Then I put two and two together. It kind of made my heart stop for a second. I know if sounds funny, but it was a weird experience. Gosh, why is it that it's always when they're on their cigarette break that we catch characters with their heads off?

If you watch the Disney Treasure DVD on Disneyland, you can see one. During the parade on opening day, one of the dwarfs took his head off during the parade. It's hard to catch because its really quick. You see them like in the corner dancing and right before it goes to the next scene you can catch it. So it does happen in plain view (at least it used to). Of course that was almost 50 years ago and they are really strict now too.

the charactors are real. the people that you see in the costumes are just friends on them. i really want to be in the star wars parade, or a friend of a charactor. i think that it would be the best thing ever

Been backstage at DL twice and WDW once....saw characters without heads all 3 times.

Perks of performing there I guess.

I used to see this all the time when I worked at the Magic Kingdom. I'm also surprised that anyone saw this while on stage. If I remember correctly, Disney tries very hard not to let this happen in an effort not to ruin the magic for anyone. I'm also surprised they were allowed to smoke while in costume, seems like the cigarette smell would kinda ruin the magic, but that's just me.

My wife's a CM at TDS. A few years ago, back before 9/11 when she could take me back to Company D with her, we went backstage at the Magic Kingdom. I saw someone in Cinderella's dress wearing what looked to me like Meg's wig (HUH?!) smoking a cigarette.

I do actually agree. No offense to the author of the thread but what purpose does this serve other than to create a not so magical image of the characters.

Get a grip! We're all adults here and I don't think people need to be rude to the poster. It's a valid post. If you don't like it, simply don't read it. *Next thing you're going to jump down my throat for telling you Santa Claus isn't real*

DITTO.

If you've been around here for any length of time, you know...

P.S. There's a forum for this, btw.

So? We all may be adults here, but this is a board about Disney. Personally, i believe in magic, especially Disney magic, and part of that Disney magic is accepting that Mickey Mouse walks around his little world of fantasy that he invites others to join him in. The Disney characters are a palatable essence of the Magic that Disney World represents. To envision them in any other way is going counter to the image that Disney World produces, counter to the feelings of the parks, counter to the Magic that Walt himself tried to preserve

To start a thread that tries to find out how many times a character is seen without their heads is a miscarriage of what i feel this website is trying to do, be a FANSITE for WDW. Fans of Disney know the magic, and most of us accept the characters for who they are, even those of us that have been in the Utilidors.

Worst yet, all it takes is one child to read this, and have their fantasy deminished, to cheapen this whole forum.

Personally, one of my favorite park activities is to sit and watch as kids run up to meet Mickey, or Aladdin, or Goofy; because, in that split-second of watching the joy and revelation of that child that still believes in wonder, then, that's all it takes to get me to believe that magic is still real.

Don't take that away...
