Off-Site Guests

Hi everyone! We have been going to WDW since 1992 and this September will be the first time that we will be staying off-site. I am aware of all the perks a Disney Resort guest is entitled to but not what we can't do! Will we be allowed to visit the resorts? Resort hopping is one of my favorite things to do. How about boat rentals? I know that EMH is a no-no. Thanks for your help and any advice you can give!

Well, all that you are entitled to as a Disney Resort quest ....you are no longer entitled to, such as the riding the resort buses., charging to your room, package delivery to your room and I'm sure there is more, but I have gone blank.

Well, on our first visit we stayed off-site. We knew we weren't allowed to ride the busses to the various resorts (and I don't think your supposed to ride the monorail either). This also ment that we wouldn't have been able to get to DTD.

However, it wasn't a busy time of year and we took the view that we would be coming back to the world so we wanted to visit the resorts to see where we would like to stay next time. I doubt disney mind you doing this, its in their interest. You're not allowed to go use the pools or anything though.

Paid admission to any WDW park allows you the use of WDW transportation.
You can use the monorails, boats and bus system. You can visit any resort and look around, shop and partake of the restaurants. You cannot use pools, gyms and spas. If it is extremely crowded you may be stopped from using resort lines, but in all my years of going to WDW that has never happened to anyone I know. We have only once been asked for ID and that was trying to get on the monorail at the Contemporary to hit the MK for early in and that was in 1992.

You can do just about everything except charging to room and EMH. You can use All transportation rent boats and resort hop if you want to. I have been staying at WDW since the day the park opened and have not seen anyone turned down at any form of transportation Boat, Train, Monorail, Buses or any thing else on Disney property.

Although we could argue until doomsday about off-site versus on-site and that undefinable "magic" (which in truth means something different to everyone), if you are going to see the parks and not stay in your room, in many ways it's just as convenient and often even more so. As long as you have your own transportation and aren't relying on some off-site shuttle or something, the freedom is VERY nice actually.

To be able to stop at a real drug store or...egads, buy a Pepsi product, or pay $1 for a huge bottle of water. ;) It's nice.

We still stay on-site on occasion, but after years of only staying on-site once we found the freedom much nicer we primarily stay off-site. Avoiding EMH is pretty easy, and most of the time it's the only really tangible difference for what WE use WDW for, which is to get the most out of the parks.

Good luck, and I'm sure you will have just as magical a time! I usually bring WDW music to listen to in the car when going to and from the parks, but then again...sometimes it's nice to step out of Disney for a minute as well.

Just remember that your time is worth something. Driving to and from the parks, gas, parking and getting transportation to the gates, paying for said parking, etc.

We have stayed both on and off site and find on site easier. We always have a car for a trip off site if we want, but not having to fight the traffic after a long day at the parks is worth it in our opinion.

I quite agree - but you pay over the odds for the privelege of staying in The World

we have stayed off site for the last 6 times and the way we see it as long as we are going the most happiest place on earth it don't matter if we have to drive 10 to 15 mins to get home to a luxury villa, I don't think i could get on with on-site only reason i do like the freedom you get with being off-site and find it has more luxury's like most 3 / 4 bed villa's have a private pool, free internet / free international phone calls , games room, full kitchen and lots of space to relax in. i do not see these things as a downside to being off site :animwink:

but even if I had to sleep in a tent camping i wouldn't care as long as i get to go to disney it wouldn't bother me

have a nice time :)
