Off Property and Backstage

I am starting to beleive that Disney is starting not to care, especially WDW, that if guests see things that are off property or backstage, it is no big deal. It just isn't a high priority as it once was. I recently stayed at the AKL and on all the busrides to and from you could clearly see strip malls, hotels and condos. Walking to the bus stops neon signs. Even from my hotel room I could cleary see a Seven Eleven! It just isn't the same. From EE, you could see off-property for miles..that I could see. But it still made me sad.

I also saw CMs constantly leaving doors open, and I could see backstage from Main Street. I understand that they can't block everything. But it seems they aren't trying anymore. :(

Your thoughts?

What can you expect for EE as tall as it is?? Its not like Disney can buy any of that land, or that it would be reasonable for that matter, just so you can't see Orlando. For the backstage stuff, yeah it would be nice if they would keep the doors closed, that part is starting to slip.

When we went in Jan/Feb of 2005, there were a lot of trees down from the 2004 hurricane (Charlie or Ivan, I can't remember which). Even though it had been months, crews were still visible trimming off damaged tree tops and the like around the grounds.

I'm guessing that alot of the usual cover was lost due to that hurricane.

Don't go on a sold-out day then like NYE. They route you backstage from Tomorrowland out to Main Street since it gets too crowded in MK.

Last time I was at MK, I could see the cast member bus from west tower coming over the bridge behind the MK from the toontown fair train station. Kind of a annoying. They need to do something about that.

Well, I think that it is absolutely unrealistic to think you won't be able to see outside buildings from tall structures like Expedition Everest and Mt. Gushmore.

Say what? :veryconfu

Cast members park in a large lot north of the Magic Kingdom off of Reams Rd. They walk to a curved building known as West Clock that surrounds a bus loop. After a security clearance, CMs than can board a bus to talk them to the Utilidor entrance to the MK. To get there, they have to cross a bridge over the WDWRR. You can see this bridge from Toontown if you look back up the tracks.

The best places to see backstage in the MK is from the Monorail. After passing through the Contemporary, you can see behind the east side of Main Street. Leaving the MK Monorail Station, you can see the road used by service vehicles and the parade floats that goes from Town Square to the storage buildings behind Splash Mountain.

but see...MOST people won't be turning around trying to see backstage areas. the reason the seats are facing the way they are facing on the trains is so your view is of ON stage areas.

there is a HUGE backstage world and its hard to cover 100% of it, but it is only visible if you are looking for it

Exactly. This reminds me of a certain "the sky is falling" post regarding the exposed duct work after the "It's a Small World" rehab.

After seeing the post of the exposed lightning and duct worked I expected the worst, only to find that to see the offending section of the ceiling you had to look up, back, and to the right upon entering the first room.

The point of the rambling is, if you are looking for it you are going to see it. Overall, folks who post here have a very critical eye regarding theme and hiding the "magic". I find as I read some of these post, it is too critical at time.

While I cannot excuse cast member neglect in leaving backstage areas exposed, I cannot understand the preoccupation of looking in directions the attraction is not designed for you to look in and finding fault.

*waves to a fellow North Carolinian*

I agree with you.

Plus some people just aren't happy unless they're unhappy.

I think some people are not fully understanding this post. He says that it's understandable that you can see things from very tall places but still sad.

I have heard the same thing about AKL from some of my clients that have stayed there. If you look at the property from above (google Earth, ect) that resort is very close to the edge of the property. This resort is still pretty new when you think about how long it takes trees to grow to make cover, and the tree cover took damage durring the hurricanes.

Give it some time, I am sure they are doing what they can to preserve the magic.

I am a Cast Member at MK 5 days a week, I know this. I was saying, "Huh?" because I couldn't understand a word of his sentence.

Yes, that is true. Thanks for reading.

My main point is that CMs were leaving doors open leading to backstage/CM only areas. I understand perfectly that with the height of EE you are bound to see off-property. In theory while going up the lift they could have built a part of the mountain on your right side.

Many bring up a good point with allowing time for tress to grow and be replanted from hurricane damage. I was thinking maybe they shouldn't have built it so close to the edge of property.

I try not to look at all times. But it other people might not be so lucky. Maybe the way I am causes me to look for problems in WDW, because I need everything to be perfect and magical for all guests, I don't want any experience to be ruined.
