Odd dining question.

If you have a trip booked last week of Aug. into Sept. and did not get a PIN for free dining how does this work exactly? What I mean is... people will be there at the same time who have free dining and you don't. How does that work as far as being in a restaurant? How they differentiate free dining from regular? Just as an aside, this whole free dining thing is causing some people stress. My DH is losing it.

The dining credits are on their KTTW card, the restaurant doesn't know if they are free or paid, all they care is if the credits are there or not to pay for the meal.

If you didn't originally sign up for free dining, you need to call them up and switch to it, if you want it.

There are different opinions on dining plans. I did one plan, one time and swore off of them. Having to keep track of the credits and ask, "Is this place (or item) on the plan?" was a pain. Also, having to eat exactly this many TS and that many CS meals was a pain. We ended up missing one CS, not using most of the snacks (though I didn't know you could get water...or maybe you couldn't) and paying for an extra sit-down.

I just didn't like it. But many people do!!

Check the restaurant section for all the Free Dining info you'll ever want! :D

When you are seated they will ask you are you on the dinning plan. If you are not you just say no and they will give you a bill after you are done eating. You can pay with your room key. credit or debit card, or cash. The menu is the same either way.

Depending on how long you will be there in Sept and where you will be staying, I would recommend you call and book it. Even if its only for part of your stay. They will recheck you in once the free dining dates take enough

The problem with the FD is the fact that we are going to be there from Aug. 30 through Sept. 4. We got a pin in the mail a long time ago so we booked for this date. We were told that we could have free dining but only for 2 days of out trip and that we would have to do 2 separate reservations which to me is just silly - I mean really, for free dining for 2 days. Not worth it and we would probably lose the discount we got in the first place, at least according to the CM on the phone. We simply cannot change our reservation for Sept. 2 to be eligible because of the travel arrangements we have in place. All of this is making my DH stress me out but I am not so sure the free dining is worth it anyway.

Did you do the math with the up to 30% offer for the same dates and resort? The money you save may make it worthwhile.

It really depends on your resort AND what and how much your family eats. My DH and I found that FD was not worth it for us. We received more value from the discount on the room.

FD is not worth it to us. We like to bounce around and fly by the seat of our pants, so to speak. With FD, or the DP for that matter, you have to plan so far ahead and be in one park or leave one park to go to where your reservations are. Not worth it to us. Just my opinion!

If you didn't book with free dining then call them and see if you can apply the new special offer to your reservation. You can always amend your vacation package. I origionally booked for our Sept trip last year a Poly with dining pkg. Then free dining came out, they adjusted it to add free dining, and when the budget wasn't coming together, I adjusted to a pirate room b/c now royal rooms at PORS were available. And finally, one royal room came up so I adjusted it again. I call a lot. :)
