October 2013 dates

Hi - My family usually travels to WDW in mid-October. We love the F&W and MNSSHP! The crowds were a little heavy in 2012...so I was thinking of changing the dates to earlier in October. I was hoping for some advice on the best week to travel to the world in October. I was looking the first week of October - but it runs into Columbus day - not sure if this draws the crowds. Also - any insight on competitions (cheerleading)etc., and overseas travel groups would be great. We travel with my parents so - the less crowded the better. I appreciate any thoughts! Also - I have a 2 year old - is she too young for Hoop Dee Do Review?

3 day weekends always draw a crowd. As for you 2 yr old only you know your child and what they can handle. Good Luck!

Figgy is absolutely correct!! We usually do our trips in October as well (3rd or 4th week) We are avid F&W lovers!!! With both the F&W festival and MNSSHP, it gets crazy busy in October. This year, we opted to do first 10 days in November to avoid some of the crowds. Early October will still be crazy on weekends, but week days are a wee bit less than at the end of the month. If you can, opt for first week of November. The F&W festival runs til November 10th. Best of luck! First time we took our son to HDDR he wasnt quite 3 and loved it

Well, you're doing the right thing since once kids are in school you don't have the freedom to fine tune a vacation like this. My kids have Oct. break, so we don't have a choice when we go in Oct.

I don't know your kid, but most 2-year olds would probably be OK for Hoop de Doo. You're close to the show, and it has a lot of activity so the child shouldn't be bored.

October seems to get busier every year. In 2011, I went the 2nd full week of October and I thought the parks were fairly crowded. In 2012, I changed to the 3rd full week of October and it was just as crowded. Epcot seemed to more crowded than it was in 2011, even the week days.

Your daughter should be fine, I bought along some of my boys favorite snack as well as silent toys like a light up mickey or lollipops. When they would start to get antsy or fussy. I would take it out and give it to them. The worst thing is a baby crying during any show but trust me a lollipop or toy keeps them entertain for a while. But kids will be kids and I love that especially at disney castmembers are great especially with babies and there are plenty of other kids. so you can enjoy yourself and take your daughter. I am going early October to but for the race so be aware thats on the 4-5th and it attracts quite a few people

It will be a bit busy, but not unbearable.
Your daughter will enjoy HDD, especially if she likes to sing and dance. The food is BBQ, and I believe they have mac & cheese by request. Have fun!

We also go then as well, last week of September, first of October. Last year was crowded but I didn't notice it as much at the parks but the resort seemed packed. Anyway, this year we are kicking around November dates, check in on Halloween and get in the last MNSSHP on the 1st of November, possibly? Best of both worlds, see halloween decorations, attend the FW days and possibly stay late enough to catch some Christmas decor. We go every year so crowds don't bother us because we are not commando park hoppers. We are strolling, in your way, people watching attendees with a few simple must do's each year. Caseys for corn dog nuggets and fire works, MNSSHP and putt putt at Fantasia. Simple, easy going days spent at the resort pool, maybe some resort hopping and boat rental and Earl of Sandwhich. I wish it were here already, I am ready for a trip!

We are headed there the third week in October we always travel in October and honest to God if we see a line we go back another time and usually walk on. We thought Epcot was crowded a bit in 2011 but the good thing about that it can draw crowds away from the other parks. LOVE going in October, warm days, cool nights. Sigh!!!!

I am trying to decide now if we will go the last week of october or the first week of november. Are the crowds that much different between the two weeks?

The last full week before the week of Halloween was great for us in 2011 and that's what we are doing again 10/19-10/26. The crowds were above average but the wait times were below which was great. Like s&ksmom said, there are many times that rides are walk ons. We got to rope drop @ MK and went in right @ 9 and we did JC, Pirates, Splash 2x and Thunder 3x before 10:45.
