Observations from a first visit after 7 years.

Background is that we haven't been to WDW in nearly 7 years. Prior to that, we were mostly on a once per year 5-6 night stay cadence. I say mostly because we went to Disneyland one year, and threw in a few Universal trips. The pandemic stopped that because we didn't want to go with strange or odd restrictions, plus we did some other non-theme park trips that were just as great. But this year was time to go back. We were there from Dec 20 to Dec 24, very busy time, but I thought it was manageable. Here are my observations on the changes from the last 7 years:

1) I think the new lightning lane system is great. I remember on our prior visits thinking I would gladly pay more to reduce the number of visitors, and while I know that's not what this does, it has the intended effect. The system works very well. I was ready at 7am 7 days prior and had no trouble getting all the major headliners. I also used the individual passes as well. I figure if I'm spending a large amount of money to be there, adding ~10% on top of that is worth it.
2) I think early entry for resort guests every day is also great. And they do it very well. They don't just open the park 30 minutes early, rather they have people pretty much on the ride 30 minutes early. Was able to do a super headliner, maybe even another, and get in line for a 3rd by the time the park normal opening hours.
3) I'm not sure why the change to Tiana is controversial, I thought it was really good. I had never seen Song of the South, nor have I seen the Princess and the Frog, so I had no emotional attachment to either...perhaps just a little to Zip a Dee Do Dah, but that was only a small part of Splash Mountain.
4) Maybe it's just my imagination, but I seem to think there are less scooters.
5) The bubble toys have GOT to go. I understand that kids would like them, but do parents really have no clue that maybe the people directly behind them don't want to have bubbles in their faces? We went on the Regal Carousel (it was late on our last night and we were trying to say we rode everything) and this family in the horses in front of us had a little kid who ran the bubble toy the entire time. My kids are older teenagers now, and I would have never bought them that, and if I had, I wouldn't have let them run it in tightly packed areas.
6) Never realized that if you just happen to time it JUST right, you can be on the people mover exactly at the moment Tinkerbell flies over. Not planned at all, we just decided to get on it, and as we came out of the last building, there she was flying nearly right over us.
7) Cosmic rewind is amazing. I think it's what space mountain would've been if it were built with today's technology.
8) I miss the Magical Express bus service, but Uber is definitely faster and more convenient.
9) Mobile ordering is great. WAY better than waiting in line to order.
10) New Test Track theming is pretty cool, not sure if I like it better than the version where you design a car or not.
11) Typically, I think that when a new ride replaces the old one, if thinking objectively about it, the new ride is usually better. But that is not my opinion with Mickey Minnie Railway. It's fine, but definitely prefer the Great Movie Ride.
12) Galaxy's edge is quite incredible. Flying the Millenium Falcon is a dream come true. Rise of the Resistance is one of the best attractions even BEFORE you get on the actual ride. I would like to spend a whole day JUST there, but of the 4 of us, I'm the only die hard Star Wars fan, so I had to compromise.
13) Sad to see Dinoland USA go away. I LOVED the idea of the older theming. Roadside attractions trying to capitalize on a nearby attraction...exactly like the land around Disneyland. Got to ride Dinosaur one last time. But looking forward to the new theming.
14) Also sad that I didn't get to go on one more loop on the Liberty Belle Riverboat.
15) Tron - Very cool...wouldn't necessarily wait a long time for it though.
16) Remy ride was pretty good. Very similar to Mickey Minnie Railway.
17) Zootopia 3D movie...Meh.
18) The new condensed Nemo musical was still pretty good.
19) I knew that the pre-show for Aerosmith is no longer being shown, so I watched it beforehand. Excited to see the Muppets version.
20) REALLY sad that Muppetvision is gone. That was one of my favorite attractions.
21) I was nervous relying on our phones and app for everything, so we got the cards at hotel check in. However, the phones worked great all the time (park tickets, fast passes) and the app for lightning lanes, mobile ordering, wait times, etc. No issues at all.
22) Lastly...monorail still smells like horse.

All in all, great trip. Had never been there this close to christmas. Usually stll visit during peak times (Presidents week, spring break, or summer). But I didn't think this was any worse than those times, maybe I'm just used to the crowds and it's normal to me. Staying on property and using lightning lanes made all the difference. I'd definitely go again the same time.

1. We utilized the LL for the essential attractions that we deemed necessary for time saving and guarantee we could do them. It isn't always needed depending on when you go and the crowds at that time. It can be utilized as a valuable part of your trip at times. Dis is making a fortune on it and are counting on guests to pay out big.
2. Resort guests IMHO should be given some perks and Dis really should do more than what we are getting. They want us on site and we pay big for that room so we should be valued more especially when you go on multiple trips.
3. Splash was one of the finest attractions Dis had and a MK jewel. It was a lengthy ride with lots of visual goodness. Tiana pales in comparison. The story is disjointed and guests are confused as to what Dis is putting across. It was a rush job putting it together and you can tell it never got the attention it needed to really be a better attraction than Splash. And I won't get into why Iger caved in because we've been over this many times.
4. You lucked out??? On our trips it never seems like fewer but a lot more people utilizing them. Discussions abound over if they are really needed by some who use them. It's making it harder for bus space for those like my DW who are w/c bound.
5. UGGH Those need a timed shut off. I have had many bubbles pop in my eyes. I wonder how many parents discard them quickly upon arriving home.
6. Never was able to catch her on flight.
7. The very best. Dis finally added a real winner with this one.
8. YES.
9. YES.
10. I'll always love the original. Test Dummies rise up and petition a way back.
11. GMR was great and could have/ should have been updated instead of trashed.
12. When all the elements are functioning. Ive ridden to work all the seats.
13. I was never a fan. I'm hoping the new land is a winner.
14. I was fortunate to ride and video one last trip around.
15. We enjoyed it but I agree it can be a decision to wait it out or not. The ride vehicle isn't guest friendly.
16. I enjoy it but many do not.
17. Haven't seen it other than on video. Can't say I'm liking it, but will reserve comments for when I see it in person.
18. Havent seen it.
19. Although I enjoy Muppets, I'm wondering how it will play out for me.
20 Dis lost an iconic show. Sad to say goodbye.
21. I abhor using devices and rely on DW and DS mostly when in the parks.
22. Depends on when Ive ridden as to how pungent the cars have been. Dis could you install activated air fresheners? That might help.

Glad you enjoyed your trip. DW and I are 99% sure we will be setting up a Christmas visit next year. We will go the 2 weeks prior to Christmas.
My DS work schedule is crazy and won't be joining us but he's said instead he's going to go to the Celtics game next year. We've been before at Christmas time and absolutely love it that time of year.
Hope you won't have to wait another lengthy time to go back.

the bubble wands are quite annoying when you are eating and drinking - especially if you have a Disney cup without a lid.

Fortunately both Starbucks and Joffrey’s can still afford to give guests lids so usually I have one on my drink.

The music from the Little Mermaid bubble wand makes me unreasonably angry...

In 2024, I was at the resort at HH. They have a TINY gift shop, but still managed to have the stupid Little Mermaid bubble things. A parent walked in with his kid and told her she could pick one thing out. Kid went for the bubble wand. I was so proud of that parent when he said "oh, no, we can't buy that; it's a bubble wand."

Ugh, I feel bad for your wife. I had to use a scooter last year (actually both trips prior to surgeries...only reason I was able to do the trips). The worst part by far was the buses. Every other form of transportation was better. Skyliner gets the gold star for accessibility; it's amazing. Fortunately, some of the newer busses I've seen have four spots for wheelchairs/ECVs. I also felt bad because I felt like I was holding up everyone else getting on the bus. Not a lot I could do (especially on the second trip when I couldn't walk).

If I saw someone w/c bound in a show or something, I usually let them go first or when the CM asked if they needed to transfer let them answer first. Because did I want to transfer at shows? No. Could I if someone else needed that spot? Yes.

I'm going at the end of this month and trying my darndest to be mobile so I don't need the stupid ECV.

Our very first trips to WDW, there was only about half of the bus fleet set up with w/c ramps. We had to wait it out until the right bus showed up. Since then Dis has greatly improved on making improvements to assist those with mobility issues.
Yes on our last trip we encountered some buses that had more w/c spots. It was crazy that on one occasion we heard people vocalizing their displeasure that they were being inconvenienced by less rider spaces. My DW said she would gladly switch places with them if she could and they could experience the difficulty of being w/c bound. The CM's, boat pilots, and bus drivers have all been fantastic and that's one major reason we continue to go back.

OMG, only half with ramps? They have improved. I love the Skyliner especially (I know I already said that, lol). Separate line, you pull right in, then back right out. Monorail was pretty easy as well.

I was non-weight bearing for four weeks and ended up renting an ECV here so I could get around. Granted, that is temporary and your wife is obviously permanently wheelchair bound, but my experience with that was WDW was wayyy more mobility-friendly than the rest of the world.

I agree, I cannot say enough nice things about the CMs and how they handled everything. Even stuff that they didn't have to do, like carrying my food tray for my at a QS location.

We rode the skyline shortly after it first opened and only issue was when it was stopped mid run and we had to sit stranded for a short period of time in the air.
